My dr has not mention for me to take any sort of protein. Is that strange? I mean I want to lose as much weight as possible. Just wondering when your dr put you on protein? Thanks for your help Donnie BTW- I have surgery on Monday March 19.

Congrats on your surgery date, Donnie. I would ask for some clarification regarding the protein. They might be waiting until after surgery to talk to you about it, but you should have an idea of what you should have a home when you return from the hospital. It will be difficult to get the protein in in the beginning, but it will get easier.

Donnie, Hi, my name is Stefanie and I am from the AL Board. I am a Bariatric Program Coordinator for a local hospital in AL. It does seem odd that your Dr. or dietitian has not discussed the need and importance for protein post-op. We have all our patients supplement 20 grams a day of whey or soy based protein. Protein helps with the healing process, your strength, and weight-loss. There are a couple of protein supplements that we recommend to our patients, but check with your physician or dietitian to see what their recommendation is. I will be glad to share our information with you, but you need to get it approved by your doctor. I will be thinking of you in the morning. Take care. Stefanie
