new surgeon

Hi, Ive been approved by insurance, and even have a surgery date (3-22), but my surgeon slapped me with a $2500 bill to be paid up front before surgery for post-op follow ups, blood work, ect... saying that insurance wont pay for it. I have good insurance and called them and they said that he shouldnt be billing me for anything upfront and that he should submit all claims even if he thinks insurance wont pay. My hub is having a fit, and Im not too happy. Other than Dr. Duncan, does anyone have any opinions on other doctors (prehaps near Dekalb medical)? Thank you! Rachel

Hi Rachel, You may want to check out Dr Hart and Dr Johnson with Atlanta Bariatrics. They accept BC/BS and don't have an upfront fee. (770.232.2911) Their monthly support group meeting will be this upcoming Wednesday from 7-830pm at Emory Johns Creek hospital. He may still do some surgeries at Northside though. Also Dr Steinberg at Dekalb Medical Center. Don't have his number but you can probably get it from the main hospital information desk. I'm using Dr. Hart and the only fee's I've been told I have to pay is if I need to submit for insurance approval from one of the harder insurances there is a 250.00 fee. And was told to be prepared to pay my deductible at pre-op. But, other than that...thats it.

Thank you all SO much for your help with this. I was feeling very discourage like the rug had been pulled out from under me. Ive decided to go see Dr. Steinberg and see what he has to say.
