Thinking about lapband
Hey Yall I am new here. Actually as of today. I am seriously considering lapband. I have been on weigh****chers but at my size it gets harder to lose and plus I stay hungry. I was just wondering if there were any advice you can give me on why you chose LapBand? Also after doing would you do it again? Also my husband is a serious chubby chaser and i am very scared by losing too much weight he may not find me "attractive" as I was to him being overweight. Does anyone have a hubby that is upset they are losing the weight? or wife? I have Aetna insurance and I was just wondering if anyone else has that insurance and what loops they had to go through to get it done?
Also what other things can i research about the lapband (books, videos, websites, etc)? Anyone have any really bad side effects from the lapband? Any good local doctors in GA like the west ga area or cobb area (or in between) that you would recommend? So sorry all the questions just needing some help. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
I was banded in Sept and have lost 49 lbs to date. I've been very happy with my decision and have had no complications. I am divorced, so no hubby issues here. I don't have Aetna either. There is a wonderful lap band forum on here and you could benefit from reading some of the posts there if you are comtemplating the band.
Good luck in your journey

Hi! I just had it done (1/12/07) & am glad that I did! I have already lost 24 lbs. I was a little nervous about the surgery process. I thought long & hard about it for about 2 years & finally convinced my husband. (We self-paid.) My husband is the opposite of yours. He did not like me gaining weight these past few years.
My Doctor is S.Steven Davis at Crawford Long. He is great!
I researched the internet a little & went straight for a consult with the doctor. I also took my husband so that he had all of the facts. Feel free to ask me any other questions.

I was banded May 6, 2006. I was 252 the day of surgery and was 181 this morning. I started my journey in Dec of 2005 and was 279. I'm sure I hit 280 at least once, I just never caught it on the scale.
I love my band. I would do it again in a heart beat. I just recommend chosing a surgeon who's done a lot of them. I used Dr. Macik over at Northside. He's not much on talking, but he's a great surgeon.
I have Aetna and I just got approved after being denied. I had to appeal. With Aetna you are going to need really good documetation. Here is the link to the Clinical Policy Bulletin - http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html , make sure that when you choose the surgeon that they help you meet the requirements, but be prepared to appeal.
I refuted my denial point by point and luckily the reversed their orginial decision.
I choose Lap-Band, because I have been running and taking prescription diet medication for several years with little success. I have yo-yo'd between 200 and 230 lbs since 2000. Last year I decided to kick up my exercise to the extreme by doing 3 months of "operation bootcamp" I lost 8 lbs.
If you are active and willing to make the changes then it is probably the tool for you, but like everyone you need to research it and decide for yourself.
Good Luck!
