Hey ladies. Anyone work for the state or know someone else who is. I couldn't find any insurance plans that didn't exclude WLS during open enrollment last month. Just wondering if I missed something. Also for those of you that have had surgeries, were any of you successful in getting coverage even if your insurance providers had an exclusion? I am really depressed and hopeless, since I've tried every kind of diet and nothing seems to work, admittedly because I have absolutely no willpower. I have several medical conditions which I am being teated for, asthma, PCOS (insulin resistance), depression, back pain, swelling feet and legs. I just want to be healthy again. I'm new to the group. I have beeen considering WLS for about a year now and have been to a few support group meetings with Dr. Maynard in Conyers. Have also done some reserach about Dr. Smith. I am leaning towards the dueodenal switch procedure. I live in Stockbridge mow and would like to know if there is a support group on this side of town.

Hi there....I can't really help you with the insurance part of it, but wanted to let you know that Dr. Maynard is my doctor as well. He and his staff have been absolutely amazing so far. I'll be at the support group meeting for December I wasn't at this last one. Anyway, welcome to the board!

I teach in Georgia. I had my surgery in May and none of the plans offered by State of georgia cover WLS. I had to pay out of pocket for mine. its the BEST thing I've ever done. There are financing options available to you. Think of it as the price of a new car, except your buying a new body that will last you a long, long time! Good Luck,

I looked and looked, but did not find that any of the State of GA ins plans cover WLS anymore. I am using my pre-tax flex spending med plan to pay for surgery (max for me & hubby 10K). I am planning to have the vertical sleeve gastroectomy with Dr. Dennis Smith in Feb and do self-pay. I will be having at Kennestine Hospital in Marietta, one of the bariatric centers for excellence. You can call 770-956-STAR to get pricing info on surgery and hospital packages for self pay. Also, check out the OH VSG forum for more info on the surgery. Good Luck! MomJackieLee
