Very important lap-band poll question. Please answer poll.

Here is the situation and question. My insurance will not pay any cost for the lap-band procedure. I owe my local doctor $1,500 for psychological, diet advice, and doctor advice. I will pay that. If he does the rest of the lap-band it will cost me $15,600. Here is the poll question. If you were footing the bill, would you (A) go locally and pay the $15,600, (B) go to Texas and pay $12,000, or (C) go to Mexico and pay $8,000 or (D) for your better ideas I can afford to do the procedure here but will have to use my nest egg. I have been saving for a new roof on my 14 year old home, preparing for heat pumps to need replacing, and remodel job on my kitchen. I welcome your advice and experience. Thank you in advance. Oh, locally they are trying to talk me out of it for safety reasons. I know that is bull.

My honest opinion here... The surgeons in Mexico are great, however with the Lap Band you'll need follow up care, and fills. Many surgeons will not touch a patient that's been to Mexico or to another surgeon even. I would try my hardest to get someone local or at least in Georgia for that reason. Amy

I am living the answer. I went to the Henderson seminar in Valdosta. At that time they were pushing the RNY procedure which was not my choice. If you are paying $15,600, that's less than the $18,232 I am payingt in Albany, GA. I chose to stay relatively local (70 miles). I have a friend who went to Mexico for the band last September and had trouble at home and has had to have it removed. The health repercussions of your obesity are way more important than a new roof that you might not live long enough to enjoy. Good luck! Nancy bhfent

ok i know we have talked but again my two cents .....After a lot of research on Doc cause i did look into GA,TX and Mexico ....and after thinking of prices and all ....I discovered that the doc i picked in Mexico was just as good as the ones in Ga and TX and if you think about it MX doc have been doing the lap band for far longer than US doc since they have been doing them longer .....So i went to mexico and paid the 8000.00...That did includ all fills ...Well my theory with this was ...if i can find someone in GA to do my fills for under a plan ticket then great ( at the time the only person i could find was 800.00) so i went got the band had no issues and have soemone in Mexico to contact when ever i had questions or something ....and i found someone to do my fills for 150.00 in GA ....So right now i am happy with my decision ....and happy with the money i saved and the great attention and doc i ended up with in mexico ..... My opinion is get a referral to a surgeon in Mexico. I plan on doing the same. I have friend who's mother and a couple of her co-workers got banded in Mexico. They're doing well now. Their surgeon referred then to someone who does their fills for @ 175.00.
