Medicaid for plastics....
Hi guys I wanted to know if anyof you all know if this is true or not. A women I meet the other week told me she had medicaid at the time of her WLS back in 2004 and and she was at almost 500lbs she is now at 250 so she has done real well. However she has a very large amount of skin. She told me she was have a TT and other stuff done the beginning of next year. And she says medicaid is paying for it since they paid for the surgery at that time and so know they are required to pay for it now. Has anyone else had mediacaid at the time of there surgery and know had them pay for the plastic's? please let me know any info would help and what did you have or how long after WLS surgery do thay make you wait. I was told a Dr. Work is doing hers does anyone know of him? Thanks in advance to all...Beth M
Medicaid will pay for relief/reconstructive plastics, but not aesthetic plastics. The surgery must be a medical need necessitated by frequent yeast/rash/bleeding and discomfort documented and submitted by your assigned primary network physician. They'll pay to remove the panis, but they'll not pay to make it look pretty.
Dr. Keith Jeffords in/near Atlanta is one plastic surgeon that accepted medicaid as of May of 2005, requiring full payment for the consultation and office stuff.
I hope this helps.

I know they do cover plastic surgery, but be very careful who you end up with. For instance is sounds like Dr. Work may not do just plastic surgery only. He's not listed on the ASPS site, which if he's board certified in plastic surgery he would be. http://www.plasticsurgery.org/find_a_plastic_surgeon/index.cfm
There are surgeons who do TT's that are not ASPS or plastic surgeons, for instance there are many bariatric surgeons who do the panni removal, etc. Just passing along some information. I'm going to be having an abdominoplasty by a surgeon who is not ASPS, but I fully believe in his capibilty of my surgery and he's got experience, so you have to go with how you feel about the surgeon too.
Hope this helps.
