OPEN ROUX-EN-Y PLUS MEDICARE ??
Hey
I am currently waiting for a consultation for wls with Dr Duncan in Atlanta. I have submitted all my paperwork thus far. I was recently told that he will not do an open RouX-en-y on anyone. I chose him because of his flawless record and the fact that he takes Medicare. Now that I know that he may not take my case I have begun to try and find another surgeon "just in case" I get told NO. (that word is something I am used too as I have run into alot of them in the past years) Do you guys know of a good surgeon who will do an open and will also take Medicare? I am at my wits end, nearly 10 years is enough time to wait without having to wait more. I understand at my size I will have to loose a certain amount of wt but from what I have been told, I may as well just go on a diet and loose wt on my own without the surgery (now, that would be nice) Thanks........

Thank you Bee Gee, I appreciate it, I did call Dr Champion back in March and his staff politely told me that they dont take Medicare anymore and I have not called Mike Williams but I have saw his web site though. I will give him a call. Dr Duncan is a center of excellence doc too. He has the seal on his web site all over the place. I really do want him because of his skill and his history of being such a great doc, but if he dont do open RNY well that kind of leaves me out .... Thank you again. Have a good day dear........Renee
Hey sandra,
thanks for the response dear. I appreciate it. Yes I would love to be able to have my surgery done lap but from what I have been told and from what I have learned and read over the years, I am way too large for that type of WLS. I am at or about 550 now. I know it would be so much better for me as far as the recovery but finding a doc to do it on my size is nearly impossible. I hope all will work out and my time will come soon. I have waited and waited some more. I know that if I dont have the WLS i probly wont live but a few more years. I am homebound now and cannot stand up for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time and walking is a big no no for me without supervision. I have been praying to have this surgery for so long but without insurance it took me having to get this sick to get my ss and medicare to enable me to have it. Thank you again for caring about me. Hope ya have a great day......See you later....
Renee

Go to the hospital website site and look up the specialty Bariatrics. It should give you the Dr.'s information on it. Odds are if they are a center of excellence-they accept Medicare.
Check with Dr. Smith's office to see if they can do the Laproscopic at your weight.
