Hi Everyone I am new to site I have been thinking of wls surgery for two years. I moved to atlanta a year ago. I need to find a pcp that is wls friendly. Also how do you appro ch the subject that you want wls surgery and would like for them to provide you with a referral letter. I went to one doctor that specializes in a condition I have pcos and told him that I was thinking about the surgery and he said no I should use his diet program and talk to his nutrionist he does not advocate wls surgery. Its not like I have never tried a medically supervised program before, I am currently on one and have tried two before. One was with the phen-phen craze I showed up for a appointment and they had shut down and moved because of the lawsuits. The next one I did was fine but it was just too exspensive since insurance companies do not cover. The one I am doing now is fine because I was able to pay for six months of visits in a package, my insurance needs proof of a 6 month medically supervised diet. I take high blood pressure medicine and metformin for pcos but would like to switch to a pcp that will be willing to provide me with a referral. I live in the tucker area

I'm in the same boat (kind of). I'm meeting my new doctor for the first time, and I'm going to be telling her also that I want a referral for WLS. It doesn't help that she's a military doctor, too. I'm hoping that she'll be sympathetic, and a supporter for WLS. :/ Good luck.

Call around to a couple of the WLS surgeons in the area, and asked them for a PCP name *****ferrs patients to them for surgery. That may help.

I am not a board expert, but I had my PCP test done at the same time with the same doctor who performed my CPAP tests, have you had this done? Dr Gore in Griffin GA, did my Physical test, PcP and had me in for my stress test the next day with a local doc... so he had me in and out in under a week of tests, along with all the blood work.

HI... I found a great doc. Like you, I had a doc that was not WLS friendly and took me thru 100 unnecessary loops for nothing. I am not sure what insurance you have (BCBS/POS). Also, I am not sure of what all types on insurance she takes. I had to go to her to finish up what my PCP fluffed up. She only required a physical and to talk to me. I had blood work from previous PCP and had that faxed to her. To aid her, I used the internet to find an example of a medical necessity letter. I created one for her. I detailed my ailments, meds, feelings, and goals. Also, add your diets, weight loss/gain, program type, doc names, meds, shots, and weigh-ins. I have PCOS, hi cholesterol, hi blood press., no periods, hair loss, back spasms due to heavy stomach, rashes in unmentionable places (not to gross you out). But this too helped her to detail my medical necessity letter, weight loss history, and clearance letter. Help them help you.... She is Dr. Michele Sewel @ Redan-Hairston Pediatric/Adult Medicine 404-297-1818/ fax: 297-1629. She is not too far from Tucker. Mt Industrial turns into N. Hairston. N. Hairston turns into S. Hairston. She's in the shopping plaza at Redan/S. Hairston on the left across from Kroger's/Popeye's/McDonalds. Good luck...She was referred to me by hershey dream.
