Hey Everyone, Ok so I have a few questions for everyone....I finally made 1 year post-op(7/5), and this should really be a happy time, but I am depressed, and it is really starting to show(mom and boyfriend have noticed it and I am really starting to see it) previous to surgery was never on any depression meds....I need some input from those of you that are post-ops and have encountered this problem...thanks in advance. hi erica your body has been through alot. huge weight loss, changes in hormone because of the rapid loss, changes in your body image, lots have gone on, you will need time to adjust. talk to your doc about he. he or she may put you on something that will even you out until your mind and body catch up. this is very normal and happens alot in WLS folks. dont let it make you even more depressed. good luck Terri

I am on lexapro an antidepressant. I recently separated from my husband and then we started therapy together and are now back together. The therapist recommended that I go see a therapist that could prescribe drugs. They evaluated me and said the because of all the hormonal changes in my body, the rapid weight loss and the issues I was having with hubby that I needed an antidepressant. I started taking it and about three weeks later I noticed a change. This may or may not be right for you. But this is how I feel... I didn't get to be 300 pounds overnight and being 300 pounds was depressing and it created so many other problems in my life with my self esteem and self image. I may have always been slightly depressed. Having the surgery started the change in my body on the outside but it didn't mentally change my body. Only you can do that and if you need help... there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. My doctor said that 90% of the people in the world should be on antidepressants and that I would be shocked at how many people are. It doesn't mean you have to stay on them for life but I can tell you... from my own experience. I feel better. I am no longer edgy, angry, sad, or just plain depressed anymore. Go to lexapro.com and check it out. And go see your doctor and tell him how you feel. As women we go thru so many changes in our bodies over the years. You may just need a little help for a few months. Laura 280/185/165 RNY-2/10/06

Hi Erica! Are you feeling depressed like all the time or just every now and then? I have taken anti-depressants on and off since I was 15. I have not had the surgery yet, but I can see how such dramatic changes can really throw you an emtional curve ball. It could be that you need to take something temporarily just to get you through this time. Of course lean on your boyfriend and family for support and talk to your doctor. Good luck, Candy
