Stretched Pouch

I've been on steroids for about 7 months now and they have caused me to eat, eat, eat. Now I'm afraid my pouch is stretched. If it is stretched, will it stay like that forever or if I cut down on my eating, will it go back to its original size? Thanks for any help you can give me. Lynn H.

Lynn, So sorry to hear that you have been on steroids for that long of time. The one positive thing that I can tell you, is that our stoma will stretch some, but not very much. That is the wonderful part of where they do the RNY. I would check with your WLS surgeon, and ask him this question. I have heard that steroids do cause you to eat, and eat, and eat...so hopefully when you get off of them, your eating habits will return to normal. Take care and let us hear from you more often on how you are doing. Norma

Hi Lynn, I can tell you that a few months back, I was afraid I had stretched my pouch too. But after watching the upper GI I had done, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was still tiny. Then after my last surgery, I was on clear liquids for 4 days while still in the hospital. After those 4 days on only clear liquids, I felt like I had just had the RNY surgery again.... back to eating 1-2 oz at a time.... so IMO, yes, it can shrink back some with the right situation... but like Norma said... always check with your surgeon.... Hugs, Susan

Just wanted to say hi. Remember me, we had our surgeries done ..same place, same doctor, same date. I too have been eating to much. Mostly due to stresss. I think I'll try the liquid diet for a couple of days. Maybe it will kick start me again.
