Topic: Do you track?

I know that when I was losing weight, I found that tracking both my activity levels and intake really helped me manage my weight loss. Often if I found my weight loss stalling, I'd check and find that my caloric intake was too low or I wasn't getting enough protein in. When I'd make the appropriate adjustments, I'd get going again. The other thing I found was that when tracking my activity I realized that I needed to up my caloric intake a bit to be sure that I was getting that baseline of 800 to 1000 calories a day to be sure that I didn't drop into starvation mode where your body gets more efficient with less calories.

Now, that I've lost the excess weight and shifted to the maintenance phase of my journey, I find that I don't journal my intake or activity nearly as much as used to. Now, I only do it if I see a trend occurring that I don't like... Either dropping or gaining too much weight. When I look at my logs, I find that I can actually see what I'm doing and when I make the appropriate corrections, so that I'm getting in enough protein, my weight balances out very quickly.

I have tried Fitday, Sparkpeople and LiveStrong/MyDailyPlate. I really like www.mydailyplate.com the best so far because I don't have to reinvent the wheel when I'm logging my food choices. I like the graphic pie chart that immediately shows me a visual so I can 'see' if my proportion of protiens, carbs and fats are on track.

So, my question is do you track your intake or activity? Have you found it helpful? Which tools have you tried and which do you like?

Topic: RE: Bipass or lap band
I thought first about the Lap Band, but after looking into it I didnt want to always have to go in and get ajustments. Plus I was having surgery in Long Beach CA and I live in Las Vegas NV. The surgeon there Dr Fobi is very well known and I felt confident in him. I wanted something that I couldnt change becasue for example I wanted to go on vacation and eat alot. Im 6 weeks out and have lost 26 pounds. I feel amazing. I do have to take vitamins everyday and had to stay in the hospital for 3 days but I feel alot of doctors recommend the Lap Band because its cheaper if patients need to pay cash for it. Plus its a fast surgery. I would sit down with your doctor and discuss how you feel and what you want as an outcome from surgery. From there just do your research not only talk about that but look into other peoples expirence. I have had NO complications post surgery. I feel great. I do watch what I eat but can eat everything. Little portions go a long way. You do have to learn how to eat and drink again. Takes a little getting used to but its your choice. Im happy with my decision and I think either way you are taking a great first step!!! You will be happy with either choice

Topic: I am so scared for my sister! i don't know who she is any more
Hello Everyone.
I am worried for my sister that had the Fobi pouch done about 2 months ago. She had the surgery with Dr.Fobi and everything seemed to be okay. But she is now having a hard time dealing with the after effect with the surgery. She says she wants to have it reserved, and the doctors say they can not do anything for her until 6 month after surgery. This surgery has changed he so much and makes me very worried for her because my sister was an active women that has gone from active to non coherent. All she can say is "she wants to feel herself again" . She has been to the doctors at least once a week to make sure everything is okay, and they say nothing is wrong. She takes her vitamins and her blood is okay, but mentally I feel we are losing her. I can't understand any of this- I had the same surgery April 08 with Dr.Fobi too and I do not understand what she is feeling I had much success with losing 115lbs. Some one help me help my sister I really don't know where to start to get her help with the reversal because no one wants to help! some one with answers please help us!
Thank you Ana
