Topic: RE: fobi addition

Hi Polly

my name is joan and i live in the uk....i am having a consultation on saturday 1st may

i think the consultant MAY  prefer to do the ordinary RNY op as the fobi op takes a lot
longer (so i have read)...so how long after your RNY did you begin to gain weight?
and can you bring me up to date as to how you are doing now?

I would love to hear from you....

Topic: Anyone going to Mexico for surgery around June 1st?
Dr. Rumbault and Dr. Alvarez, etc are two excellent WLS surgeons in Mexico. I'll be back in Monterrey on June 1st for some follow up plastics with Dr. Sauceda and would like to know if there are any OHers who will be there around that same time.

Topic: Emotional Eating

I got an article from SparkPeople about emotional eating. I know that it's been an issue for me in the past... not so recent past to be honest. As many of you know, I've been under an enormous amount of stress lately... Well, actually for the last year or so, but it's really ramped up during the past 3 months. During the past year, I noticed that I was succumbing to emotional eating and put on 15 to 20 lbs... I had dropped a little low before, so i was only worried about the last 10 to 12 lbs, but I was comfort eating. I recognized what was happening that was able to identify the problems and trim off the extra 10 to 12 lbs. I found that if my weight is going up, I seem to be able to get a handle on it by logging what I'm eating. It allows me to 'see' what I'm doing and make the appropriate corrections. I didn't really have to 'diet' to the excess weight off, I just made sure that I was leading with protein and keeping my carbs under control. For me, it seems that when I let my carbs get out of control, meaning more than 30% of my total intake, then I gain, but when I can get back in line, the extra pounds just trim right back off.

Being able to see it in terms of balance rather than having diet has made a huge difference for me.

During the past 3 months, I've actually dropped another 12 lbs and I'm a little too thin. Now that I'm REALLY STRESSED, believe it or not, I've found that I have to force myself to eat. Who would have ever thought that would happen.

Please share any thoughts and/or experiences you have surrounding emotional eating.

Topic: RE: hysterectomy vs gastric bypass
Hi, I had both 5 yrs apart.. hys. was 1st and I was dying in pain from it.. couldn't drive for 8 wks after, the pain was to me, worse than anything I ever had done, including my c-section.. and last yr.. I had GB thur lapo and it was a piece of cake... I wished I had done it 5 yrs.. ago... really little or no pain.. worst part was low energy from low calorie intake and feeling faint was the only low.. everything else has been positive and I have lost over 100lbs.. and have excellent health and energy again.. its nice to be living again and my advice is if you think GP is painful thru lapo.. it is nothing.. even my gallBldr surgery was worse than GB.. Good Luck!!

Please come and join the group.  I just wanted a place for those of us that are single to have a place to meet others with common interests.  We all have a least one interest and that is this website and the interest in weightloss, in one shape form or fashion.  So please stop by and visit Singles to Mingle.

The beauty of a woman is not seen through what she wears. It is seen through how she carries herself and the way she doesn’t allow herself to settle. Don’t ever let anyone take for granted the beauty that is within you. Stand firm and know that you’re a wonderful person. Always remember your value and respect yourself. I’m so blessed to have you in my life.  Sometimes we all need to be reminded how special we really are!

I've read that the small intestine can lengthen and become larger in diameter after weight loss surgery in response to malnutrition.  That, plus a stretching of the pouch and stoma and eating the wrong foods can lead to regain.  Some theories suggest that being diligent about your vitamins and protein can help prevent your small intestines from reactively becoming larger because your body is less likely to feel malnourished.

I haven't heard that.  I've heard of people stretching their stomach, and that is why they regain.  My husband is 2 years post op as well, Fobi pouch, and hasn't gained anytihng back.  He's pretty steady at 170.
