About
Welcome to a new online support group for men who have had or are considering plastic - reconstructive surgery after weight loss surgery. It's hard for men researching this topic to find others in the same boat.I have created this group to help those looking for information and photos from other men who have gone before them seeking surgery for excess skin removal etc.

I had RNY in August 2008. I'm pretty active on the Pregnancy after Weight loss surgery board, as I had twins five months ago. I am also a student getting a master's in counseling psychology. I'm working on my thesis right now all about obesity and weight loss surgery, which as you can imagine is close to my heart. I need some volunteers to fill out some of my forms and tell me what they think. I can send them by e-mail and you can send them back. Please PM me if you want to help me out and increase awareness of obesity, weight loss surgery (any type), the stigma we face together being obese, etc. I really want to increase the awareness of our struggles and help convince the medical/psychological community that we have a voice!
PM me and I'll send you the attachment. I really appreciate your help!

I am hosting a monthly support group that will be meeting in North Raleigh tomorrow morning at 10 am.
This is a social networking group for people who have had or are considering any type of Weight Loss Surgery through any practice. We enjoy chatting, exchanging tips, recipes, information and support. This is open to anyone who would like to join us. Please be sure to RSVP so that we can get a head count.
This month we will be discussing ways to prepare for and enjoy the upcoming holidays while staying on track our long term weight and health goals.
We will also have a clothing swap for anyone who is interested in participating. Please feel free to bring any items you want to swap or give away. Each person is responsible for removing any left over clothing items that they bring.
For information and to RSVP, please go to www.meetup.com/nc-wls
I hope to see you there!Barbara

As you know, I am really struggling with many stressors right now, but I have found that taking time to remember the things for which I'm grateful helps to keep me focused on doing the things I need to do to take care of myself. With that in mind, I'd like to share a few things for which I'm grateful:
* My improved health which is helping me make it through these tough times
* The fact that I'm not gaining a ton of weight during these stressful time
* The support of friends, family and acquaintances
* The companionship of my sweet, loving puppies that only ask to be loved in return
* The roof over my head and food in the pantry today
* The beauty of the season. I just love the vibrant colors as the leaves change
If you have things for which you are grateful, I'd love to have you share them. It seems that when I read others gratitude lists, it helps trigger even more things for me to add to my own list and as I am grateful, my burden is eased.Barbara

During this upcoming holiday season, I am looking forward to maintaining my weight which in turn allows me to maintain my health, quality of life and yes, even the smile I see reflected when I recognize that the petite woman looking back in the mirror is actually me! To do this, I've decided that I plan to enjoy some of the special foods that the holidays bring, but that I'll be sure to
* load with protein first
* modify a few of my favorites so that I can enjoy them even more... I thought I'd have to give up some of my favorites, but have found some wonderful ways to enjoy them as much or more now than I did before... and without the guilt or excess 'baggage they used to bring.
* freeze some of the delectable leftovers in portions that support my long term goals of maintaining my weight so that I don't keep going back to the fridge for 'a little morsel' now and then
These are the things I have done for the past couple of years for the holidays and other special occasions and it has allowed to have my proverbial cake, or in my world, pumpkin pie and still be happy with myself when it's all said and done.

A friend of mines had RNY about 10 years ago and once I told him that I was going to have it he recomended for me to try the same proteind shakes that he did..they are already premixed they come in an 11 oz can and have a total of 35 grams of protein per serving....I KNOW..THATS GREAT... RIGHT!!!! thats what I said...started taking them before the surgery as a meal substitute and they tasted great....
I dont know were you live but you can actually order them online from the store....!!!
the store is called TRADER JOES and they have an array of protein and whey powders and bars for consumtion.....these shakes are a true life saver...I hope this helped.
My name is Katie Konrad and I'm a grad student in the English department at UW-Milwaukee. I'm currently writing an article for a class on my weight loss surgery and the profound effect it's had on my life. I'd love to include other people's stories and experiences...and that's where you all come in! For those of you who'd like to help, there's a list of questions for you to answer at the end of this post. You can answer any or all of them, any information you'd be willing to share would be most appreciated! If you do chose to answer any of the questions, you can email your responses to me at [email protected]. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you friends!
