I have never been on Atkins, but have used some form of High protein/low carb since I was 15.. I was once on one that was called "calories don't count"..I took one ounce of corn oil before two meals every day, high protein and lots of water and string beans....and lost inches! .Dr Cowan did my surgery i***** and recommended 90 grams protein for 5'4" and small frame.(wt was still 260)
I still use these guidelines to get myself on track, if I bounce up a few pounds...also the dumping stops when you stop the offending food. This is one of the first symptoms of hypoglycemia! You need to check your sugar , a fasting, and one hour after you eat and 2 hrs after you eat, to know if this is true hypoglycemic episodes. ( Just once, so you will know.) Be sure to check it if you have a dumping episode...and record each one, so you will have documented how you are processing.... make diet adjustments accordingly now...If you are doing this and are not diabetic, then you are most assuredly on the way.!Mine happens when my bolld sugar suddenly rises, usually from a high carb..., then blood sugar bottoms...usually just after dumping..I have some herbs I take to help this. If you need /want any more tips you can e-mail me swetpotato1959@yahoo. Denise
The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) created an emergency care flow chart specifically designed for use in the care of the Bariatric Surgery Patient. It was created with a "flow chart" design for the purpose of assisting the Emergency Room Doctor in diagnosing and caring for complications which may be encountered with regard to the Bariatric Surgery Patient.
This poster is provided FREE of charge from The ASMBS as a "download" from this site. The download is in PDF format and can be reprinted as a poster by the printer of your choice.
I have printed a copies to keep in my purse, my cars and to take to my doctors office.
I hope that you find this information helpful.

New Group! -- http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/atkins/
We will be discussing low-carb / high-protein / Paleolithic / high-fat / Atkins eating programs!
Several OH members have posted questions or comments about the Atkins program, and also about high-protein, or low carb, or high-fat dieting. Some people are interested in trying it to lose weight, or to refine their weight-loss, or just get carb cravings or blood-sugar under control.
This new group will provide information and support for those who would like to try this way of eating.
Even though I had WLS three years ago, and am thoroughly pleased with my Roux-en-Y, it has become necessary to get my sugary-foods cravings under control. I still dump like a Mack truck, but have found other carbs slipping unhealthfully into my eating, and dearly wish to lose a little more weight.
So -- I'm "doing" Atkins again (it was effective for me in the past). If you are also researching this way of eating, come give the new group a shot!
Any takers?
The other factor is the increase in portion sizes that are given today are more than double of that we were given when I was a child and the rate of exercise through play and sport has decreased. Some of this due to parents being scared to let their children play out.
I came to the conclusion my weight issue was not of my own making about 10 years ago and through therapy I came to forgive my mother of her wrong-doing. She has learned to accept the fact I have a weight issue that has been caused by her interfearing with my mental health (so to speak).
Although I have accepted the situation it has not been that easy to control my weight and I have had a RNY only 7 weeks ago having managed to lose 28lb prior to surgery I could not have maintained that for much longer.
I wish you luck and hope you find the happiness you seek x
