Topic: RE: Post Op Question
Sarah,
When I go to a restaurant I have a few choices. First I look at the children's menu (cheaper, less food) but that sometimes doesn't help because everything is so full of fat or fried. Then I ask if they have a low fat/low carb menu (Mimi's cafe has it), I also ask about soups. I usually can eat more when I eat soup because it's liquid, goes down easier and goes right through my little pouch ...however I try to order soup only when I can't find anything else (I usually order fish/veggies/starch or any meat). I still think it's better to order food and eat less...but by all means if I can't find anything healthy soup it is. I also try to seat close to the bathroom...yep I've had to run a few times. It's hard to remember to eat slow when everyone around you is just stuffing their faces. If I order a regular meal at least two thirds go home with me in a box. In my humble opinion it's very hard to go to a restaurant and watch everyone eat and not eat. So I try to avoid that. I have done it though...but not my favorite. Well...hope this helps...email me if you have more questions.
Take Care,
Paola

Jennifer,
I'm from Brazil and had surgery there. My doctor was my cousin, who is one of the best gastric doctors in the country. He is the one who decided for me. He said the lap band requires a lot of follow up (as I was wheeled into the OR the patient before me was just coming out of surgery to change her band that had "popped")and he kind of went over another kind of surgery. I trusted him with my life...so I trusted he knew what was best for me.

Topic: RE: losing too much?
Wow Yvonne...I hope I don't have to worry about gaining weight in 7 years. My doctor told me he does get patients who are not happy about losing too much. He said there's nothing he can do...but I was wondering...can't you up your calories? Eat a little more or even more caloric healthy foods? Have you asked your doctor what to do? I would like to know the answer to your question...let me know if you figure it out.

Topic: hypoglycemia
I would like to know how everybody is avoiding low blood sugar. If I dont eat every 2-3 hours I start feeling sick...I've never had hunger pains after surgery to remind me to eat..so sometimes I feel sick, what does everybody do to avoid that feeling?
Topic: losing too much?
Does anyone know if its possible to lose to much weight? I had the fobi surgery 7 years ago, 230 pounds to 120. Is the weight loss going to stop, I dont want to keep losing? How can you slow it down?
Topic: Post Op Question
This is a question for post op patients...
I've been going to a behavior modification psychologist and he wanted me to come online and find 6 different answers to what you do when you go out to eat in a social situation. At a restaurant, what do you do? Do you order a certain type of food, or do you not eat, or do you order what you want and leave it there, or take it home, etc? What do you personally do? All responses from anyone are welcome but I'm really interested in people that have been in this situation after their surgery.

Topic: Kathy Morris - a member here died this morning!
I don't usually post here as I have had the Lap-Band, but I wanted to come here and inform everyone that Kathy past away this morning at 3:30. She was my cousin. She went to Mexico to have the bypass on April 8th. After surgery she developed a hole in her esophagus that had to be repaired. She then got phneumonia and a severe infection. Her family found a specialist in Baton Rouge which is where she is from to fly down to Mexico on a medavac plane and pick her up. She arrived back in Baton Rouge last night about 10 but the infection had spread throughout her body. She went into a coma and then cardiac arrest. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not bashing anyone but I tried to talk her out of the bypass because of the risk of complications. I don't know yet if the complications were from the surgery or surgial error. Her mother just barried a son and her husband last year. The only thing I can think of is that Kathy's dad wanted his little girl with him. All Kathy wanted was to be thin and healthy. Now she will be eternally thin and healthy forever.
