Hi Kim, thanks so much for the compliments. Your looking wonderful yourself, I find it hard to believe you EVER lacked confidence in yourself. I have to agree with what you said in your profile, loving ones self is one of the hardest things I had to learn to do, it feels selfish, conceited and just down right wrong, but it is totally necessary for success. And that alcohol has killed a few fobi patience. I get my therapy by attending support group meetings, I have a lot of wonderful people who look up to me and I hold myself accountable. If I fail they might think they will fail too, so I try to be a good example and do what I call paying it forward. As you become stronger I bet you will kick the meds too!! Rock on sister!! Topic: RE: Was wondering about the Fobi Pouch
Hi Angela, I know several Fobi patience who have stretched their pouches and gained A LOT of weight back!! And two are only four and five years after having surgery. I know they both drink carbonation too. One person is a very close friend and his pouch is so stretched it can't even be reconstructed because it will tear, it's too thin now. The band helps to keep the food in our pouch longer and helps us feel full for a longer time, the food doesn't empty as fast unless we drink with our meals. Your pouch WILL stretch as the years go by.

Hi Kim Way to go!! I'm so glad I had the Fobi pouch too. I had mine four years ago and weighed 440 and now I'm around 180 and maintaining for a year now. Dr Felahy did mine, he's wonderful. I'm so glad Dr Fobi created this surgery!!! I do have to watch what I eat and excersize, I feel I have a second chance at life and I'm living it to the fullest!! Topic: RE: question about fobi pouch
Hi Jennifer, I choose the Fobi pouch because of the band. They said it would help with hunger, the band keeps the food in you longer and so you feel full longer (unless you drink liquids with your meal which pushes it through, and then your hungry sooner) But as you get further along you do begin to stretch your pouch and you can eat more years later, and end up gaining A LOT!! I had my surgery four years ago and I have maintained for the last year, but I don't drink when I eat and I NEVER drink anything carbonated. I hope you find a surgery that is good for your needs. Topic: RE: Can you consume alcohol after WLS?
It is very dangerous to drink too much as the stomach is what absorbs alcohol and since our pouch is very small it shoot's right to our liver and causes cirrhosis (sp?) of the liver. We have lost a few WLS patience to this. Dr Fobi says its okay to have wine, limited. Please discuss it with your surgeon, and always avoid anything that is carbonated! Hi LessMo L: Thanks for the reply. I'm just in the early stages and have my first appointment with my surgeon on Monday, but I will keep that in mind. Peace and blessings, Karen

Topic: RE: What is RNY?
RNY is the Roux n y gastric bypass... look at this link for more information http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/m-surgerytypes.phtml That will give you some of the most common gastric bypass surgery types though there are others and variations of the ones listed. The Fobi method is actually a modified RNY. The main difference is the ring around the pouch to help keep the pouch from stretching a lot over time and facilitating gaining all the weight back.

Topic: RE: Question about sugars
Dumping is an individual reaction, just like what makes some people nauseated and others can tolerate. Some people can eat everything that they could before and never have any kind of dumping symptoms. Some people become lactose intolerant. I wish I could help more but really it all depends on you. Of course less sugar is recommended. My suggestion is to stock up on the sugar free jello and the low sugar popsicles. After you can start eating more varied foods you'll have to go through the mini-journey we all have to go through to figure out what your body likes and doesn't like. When something hits you bad try to lay down somewhere cool and let it pass. Then put it on a list of something that gave you a bad reaction. I personally can't eat mayo. I also can't eat dips, but am fine with cheese and milk in small amounts. I can eat Ritz type crackers but not saltines. It is all about experimentation. Good luck to you!

Well, remember that alcohol is sugar..... but........ I do have about a drink weekly. I have had wine and mixed drinks but no beer because of the carbonation (which I have cut out of my diet completely.) Alcohol doe**** you quick and the effects go away more quickly too, so you're a cheap date and can get a quick buzz and still be sober to drive home. Not a bad deal.
