Medical Alert Card
Hello,
I wanted to know if anyone has ever used their medical alert card that you received after surgery? On the card it says the I can request a child's menu at resturant. I'm going to Disney World on Wednesday and I know that I still can't eat too much because I'm only 4 1/2 weeks post op, so I was hoping that I could save a few bucks on food. Has anyone had problems using the card?
Thank you,
Mike
HI,
I have used mine a few time. I go to a chinese buffet that lets me pay lunch prices, and Mimi's let me get childrens or half size portions, so does Olive Garden.
I have had a couple of places say no, but they were also small restaurants and not chains.
Have fun at Disney World and good luck with your band. I was banded ion 2/13/06 and love it.

Hi,
I have used the card several times and at different restaurants, and I have never had a problem. The best time to present the card is when you are giving the waiter your order. Sometimes the waiter looks at the card with a funny look and then takes it to get approval. All in all, no problems though. I am three years out and now I just order a regular meal and ask for a doggy bag when the food is first served; this way I have another meal already prepared for the next day's lunch or etc.
I haven't had the surgery yet, but just wanted to comment that a senior citizen's portion or half portion is better than a child's menu. Children's menus are often chicken fingers, hot dogs and things like that. I have a friend who had the surgery and gets senior citizen (half) portions with the card.
