I am considering WLS and was wondering if you are able to eventually have an occasional ****tail after surgery. If so, which alcoholic beverages can one consume , wine? Thank you.

Well, remember that alcohol is sugar..... but........ I do have about a drink weekly. I have had wine and mixed drinks but no beer because of the carbonation (which I have cut out of my diet completely.) Alcohol doe**** you quick and the effects go away more quickly too, so you're a cheap date and can get a quick buzz and still be sober to drive home. Not a bad deal.

Hi LessMo L: Thanks for the reply. I'm just in the early stages and have my first appointment with my surgeon on Monday, but I will keep that in mind. Peace and blessings, Karen

It is very dangerous to drink too much as the stomach is what absorbs alcohol and since our pouch is very small it shoot's right to our liver and causes cirrhosis (sp?) of the liver. We have lost a few WLS patience to this. Dr Fobi says its okay to have wine, limited. Please discuss it with your surgeon, and always avoid anything that is carbonated!
