I have been approved for surgery and am trying to decide the best procedure for me. I have alot of weight to lose and am unsure which I will have the best results with. I am considering the DS, Fobi pouch, or RNY. Any suggestions? I currently weigh 351 and my goal is 170-180. HELP! PLEASE?!?!!  I don't want to sell myself short and I think with the RNY I may be doing so. What did you choose and why?

dear pt,
i had the micro puch RNY procedure and am having great results. This doesnt mean you should also. Youy must do your homework as to what each procedure pros and cons are and then sit down with your primary care physician and make a determination. The idea of having weight loss surgery is already done the question now becomes what is in your mind right for you and your family if it applies. I took a full year to research all the WLS procedures and when I met my surgeon for Micro pouch RNY he made the most sense. It will click in your mind that the procedure will be the right one for you if the surgeon is a good doctor who takes the time to explain all the aspects of your outcome. Good Luck!!!

Hi,
I am having the gastric bypass. I have never heard of the fobi pouch as my doctor does not offer this procedure. I have been watching the lap band procedure on friends that I work with and have decided against it because they were not losing alot of weight. That is just a personal decision that I have made. Even though the gastric bypass is a risker operation, I feel that my
weight loss will be greater and better managed in the long run. Also, with the lap band, adjustments have to be made (which takes more time and money). Hope this helps   Melissa

I chose the Duodenal Switch.

I wanted to be able to eat more normally and larger amounts of food and the vertical sleeve gastrectomy and intestinal malabsorption provide for this.

I also wanted to be able to take Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS, and with a pounch RNY this is discouraged.

I can eat quite a bit of food.  I do not have any diarrhea.  I am actually constipated if I do not eat enough fat.

I researched weight loss surgery for 6 years before I finally took the plunge.

I believe that for me the duodenal switch was the best option.  Post on the Duodenal Switch Boards.  Ask questions there.

Good luck and God Bless,
Kathy
