Hi Everyone, I am considering having a revision to the fobi pouch.  Unfortunately, there is very little activity on this forum.  Has anyone out there had any complications with the fobi pouch I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

I just had this procedure done 9/21/07.  The only complications I have had so far is alot of nausea.  I was only to be in the hospital two nights and ended up six nights.  They wanted to keep me longer but I told them I wanted to go home.  It is very hard trying to get down 60 oz of fluid and 60 oz of protein in one day.  I went for my one week post op today and they said if I did not feel good by Monday or not drinking enough protein, I may have to get feeding tubes put in my nose for about a week.  So I am having to force the fluids down.  But they are staying down at least.  I have to be on a liquid diet two weeks from the surgery date and then go to puree foods after my second week visit with the nutritionist.  Everybody will be different, just remember that.  Good luck! It's not 60 oz of protein, it's 60 GRAMS! Much much less than 60 oz would be! So look up protein grams in food items, and go by that to measure. For example,  drumstick is about 35 grams of protein.

What kind of surgey did you have previously?

All i know is that the fobi pouch is exactly like a normal RNY only the selistic band is supposed to help to prevent weight regain in the long term. I dont think the band is supposed to help us loose more weight then we would with a simple RNY.

Good luck!

crystal, my previous surgery was the mini gastric bypass.  I don't know if you ever heard of that surgery but there is a forum about it on this website.  I've basically regained back all my weight accept for about 30 lbs of it.  I'm hoping to have a revision to the rny and if the salastic band is placed over it I am hoping that will decrease the chance of putting the weight back on.  However, I do worry that that the band might cause complications.

My wife and I both had the fobi pouch done in April 2006.  I have had no complications.  My wife had scar tissue build up around the band and they had to remove it with another surgery.  Since then everything has been great.  We are both at our goals.  I lost 140 pounds and she lost 190 pounds.   Floyd

Hi Linda,

The Fobi pouch is a RNY.  The main difference is that after they do the RNY, they put a band around the pouch.  It restricts the intake even more.  Everything I eat has to be about the size of a dime or it'll get stuck.  I know even RNYers have this too.  The Fobi pouch RNY cannot be done laproscopic, only open.  I think the laproscopic RNY is more widely used for that reason.  The reason Brenda and I chose the Open was because they had some indication that it was more successful....no statistics, but we decided to go with it anyway.  For us, it was the right choice.  Now that Brenda's band has been removed, hers is just like the normal RNY.  I still have the band and have had no problems.  We are both at goal now.  I'm actually lower than I hoped for.  I've lost 140 pounds and Brenda lost 195 pounds. Have a great weekend.  Always good to see your posts.  Floyd

Thanks for the info Floyd. I find myself eating more than in the beginning, but I make sure it is protein, or veggies, the tiniest bit of anything like sweet potatoes or such. I have such a fear of gaining any weight,I am almost at goal. Congratulations to both you and your wife.
