Just wondering what you thought of it? What were your complications if any? How much weight have you lost and in how long? I am contemplating having it. I heard the guy who invented it is great. I was going to have the lap band but something keeps pulling me towards this. Also what insurance companies are the easiest to work with? My husband's company told him they will get whatever insurance we need to make it easy for us. Thanks for you help Gina

Hi.. I am pre-op, but in Georgia BCBS paid for the RYN and I paid for the Fobi part. It is considered "experimental" here so it was not covered by the insurance.

Hi I'm interested in the Fobi part, but my insurance won't pay for it.  Can you tell me what you paid for the "Fobi"  part of the procedure. Thanks

On day 14 post-op, I'm very positive on my experience with the Fobi pouch. I had the lap procedure, so the pain and healing time was minimal (thinking about returning to work tomorrow). Worried about not being able to drink water easily, but for me that isn't a problem. Haven't really tried any problem foods, so no comments on dumping syndrome. Day 3 brought a ton of saliva production which I couldn't swallow (frothy saliva in the esophogas had to be thrown up), but I could swallow my saliva again by day 4. If I had to live my life with a spit-cup, that would have sucked.

I had the Fobi pouch in November 1998.  I started out at 252, i am now 129 and steady there.  I also had a baby 3 1/2 years ago.  I have relatively few problems, low iron a couple of times, but that is it. I am completely happy with the procedure and would recommend Dr. Fobi a million times over!  Good luck. ~Kathy

Gina ~ I had my surgery done in Atlanta Dec. 2000.  I moved a few months later to a really small town in Arkansas.  My docters don't know how to treat me as far as how much medicine I shoud take when needed and even keeping checks on my blood counts are a test for them.  I have to travel to Little Rock if I have to do anything mecically.  With that said ~ I've gotten used to it all.  Fobi pouch is MUCH more restrcited than regular RNY.  So I can't say for anyone else that this would be the right surgery for everyone.  Do your home work ~ there wasn't much information out when I had my surgery.  The chances for weight re-gain are less likely but you have to stick to a smaller menu when you are able to eat solid food.  So you have to make sure you supplement your diet accordingly.  I can tell you all kinds of stuff and write for hours.  If you want to chat via email I would be more than glad to share my experiences with you.  [email protected]

old thread but i'll add my two cents for anyone who might pop in.... i'm only three months out of surgery but am very happy with the Fobi procedure. couldn't recommend it more. my weight loss has been tremendous (not the case for all with the Fobi pouch or any other wls, but still nice for me) and Dr. Fobi is indeed a great surgeon and his staff very professional. i know not everyone can have gastric bypass surgery performed personally by the man himself but if you can find a surgeon experienced in his technique by all means make it a serious option. and if you live anywhere in the western united states and can make a few trips to see him for your surgery certainly look into doing so. he is the very best their is.....
