Hi,
I am just starting my research have scheduled two diff info sessions.
Dr. Murr does not do VSG but his associate Dr. John Paul Gonzalvo does. This is through Tampa General which does not have the "center of excellence" designation by my insurance company.
Dr. Alfredo Fernandez will do VSG and does surgery at Brandon Hospital, which is considered a "center of excellence".
If I go with a center of excellence, my employer will give me $1000 in health care rewards.
Has anyone had VSG surgery at Brandon Hospital with Dr. Frenandez?
I just had my surgery with Dr Kim last Monday July 8th. I had been waiting for the surgery quite awhile ( 18 months) due to having a total hip replacement earlier. Dr Kim's expertise, coupled with a superb nursing staff at Celebration Hospital made my experience totally outstanding.
. I just saw your post....I am using Dr Jawad and he and his staff are wonderful. He won me over at his seminar. He spent almost 2 hours talking with everyone and explaining the surgery in great detail. I was going to use Dr Kim but I have heard he is very hard to get calls back from. I want someone *****sponds quickly and so far everytime I have called Dr Jawad's office I have spoke with the person I needed, never had to wait to be called back. Feel free to message me whenever you like.
There was no requirement that I know of. I stopped losing weight at 9 months post-op, my surgeon ordered an endoscope with Dr. Misra. Before Dr Misra did the endoscopy, we talked about what he could do if he found that my stoma was enlarged. I agreed with the procedure and to the exam. When I woke up, he had photos of my pouch, staple line, and my stoma. A stoma should be about the size of a dime, mine was the size of a quarter. So he had photos of where he injected the acid and sent me home.
Upon home, I felt like I had a new pouch. I was on liquids for about a week, soft foods for another week then back to a regular eating plan.
I lost another 25lbs, but never really lost to goal. There are NO guarantees.
I am actually seeing Dr. Misra next week for my "Every 5 yrs Colonoscopy." Yipee me....HA.
Wow, thank you so much for the response ! Can you tell me a little more about what you experienced with this procedure.
Was there a weight regain requirement, or anything like that ?
I live about 35minutes from orange park mall and about 50minutes from memorial hospital but i am looking for some walking/running and work out parenters. i am willing to drive 3 days aweek to meet up with other people. I do so much better in a group and would like the support from other who have or are going through this journey. I hope to here from some soon. thanks for taking the time for reading this.
Thanks for the tips. I have been drinking GNC Prolean. I has 25 grams or protein, 3 net carbs, and 170 calories. I have found if I drink it slowly, it doesn't cause as many problems. Sometimes it gives me pretty bad cramps, but they tend to go away after an hour or so.
This month, they have me keeping my carbs below 100 grams and not drinking with meals. The drinking thing is more difficult than i thought, but I'm really working on it.
I see the surgeon for the first time next Tuesday, so hopefully that will give me more info.
Dr. Keith Kim in Celebration! I love him! He and his staff are unbelievably awesome. It was the best experience I've ever had. Sorry this is so late. I never check the local board.
After surgery, carbonated drinks can give you gas. They won't stretch your pouch, but some doctors like to say that to scare you away from them. Some people also have issues with artificial sweeteners after surgery.
Starting off with replacing breakfast with a protein shake is a good idea. What stomach issues are you having? How are you preparing your drinks?
I think what causes constipation after surgery is the lack of fiber, not the protein itself. Since we can only eat so much, we have to eat protein first because that is what keeps our bodies in good working order. I put Walmart brand benefiber in hot tea in the morning and in another drink at night. If you get the clear, water-soluble kind, you won't even notice it, I promise.
