LOL Girl! Thanks! I didn't get a chance to be nervous the morning of the operation. I was busy trying to keep my hubby and bestie calm...haha! That's just the way it works for me, which I won't complain. It was better to be a trooper than the one falling apart, my poor hubby...haha! Hang in there sugar. It will pay off no matter how nervous you are!

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
This is the list I got from Medipass of doctors on their network for Bariatric surgery... This is only a list for the Miami area. I will paste a copy here:
BARIATRIC SURGEONS (GASTRIC BYPASS)
Dr. Jorge Luis Sosa 305-558-0411
Dr. Juan Fleites 305-856-1002
Dr. Nestor De La Cruz Munoz 305-856-4385
Dr. Eric Valladares 305-558-0411
Dr Jorge Luis Sosa and Juan Fleites accepts Medicaid (with the following manage care HMO or Medipass) and they both do gastric bypass surgeries and the lap band surgeries. Dr Nelson de la Cruz Munoz does not accept Medicaid and the client will be responsible for his fees, however he uses Medicaid for the hospital fees and he also does the lapband surgery.
****PLEASE NOTE SPECIFICATIONS****
Disclaimer:
** Doctors and health care providers do not have to see Medicaid patients. We have tried to make sure the providers listed are seeing Medicaid patients before sending the list to you. It is possible that right now these providers are not seeing Medicaid patients. If you have trouble finding a provider, please call our office at (305) 593-3000 and we will try to find a provider for you. **
Hope this helps anyone who had questions about doctors that take Medicaid here in Miami. I am going to try to get one for Broward county as well. Will update if they send it to me.
Okay so I was curious about Dr. Fleites and I called his office and was told he does not accept Medicaid for Bariatric surgery... Go figure!!!! So I guess the ONLY one is Dr. Jorge Sosa and his partner Dr. Valladares.
Here is the surgeon list for Broward county. According to the list they are not accepting new patients, but I would verify that with the doctor's office itself.
Surgery, Bariatric Thomas Bass, M.D. 1150 N. 35th #540 Hollywood 33021 (954) 966-8559 Gastric Bypass
Surgery, Bariatric Brett Cohen, M.D. 1150 N. 35th #540 Hollywood 33021 (954) 966-8559 Gastric Bypass
Surgery, Bariatric Samuel Cox, M.D. 2438 E. Commercial Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33308 (954) 928-0066 Gastric Bypass

Topic: Roux en Y or VSG
I would love to get some opinions.... Which is the better choice considering the risks and life long commitment that must be made.
I had thought I wanted the RNY, but I have been reading a little bit about the VSG and it too sounds like a good choice.
Since I'm not very good at remembering to take my pills I have been considering the VSG, but I'm not sure if I would lose the weight that I want.
That is why I'm asking for some opinions.
Looking forward to "hearing" from you all!

I don't know but what is wrong with just adding the info to the existing sticky of the same topic.

Hi Eddie...I'm a Medicaid case manager for the Tri County area (Polk, Hardee and HIghlands). I can tell you this - straight Medicaid requires you to have 12 months of consecutive nutritional counseling sessions prior to surgery; however sometimes that 12 months can be split up depending on the type of counseling you had (i.e., proof of weigh****chers meetings, etc). So, call Amerigroup and ask them what the criteria is. Or log on to their website! https://www.myamerigroup.com/english/pages/welcome.aspx
Good luck!~

Topic: Officially A Looser...
I came through the surgery fine. They had some problems getting my O2 saturation to stay above 89 but it finally made it there. I haven't been on pain meds since yesterday afternoon. It made me nauseated so I told them I'd rather hurt a little than to force that down and potenitally throw up. They took the drain out this morning (Thank God), that thing was so uncomfy. I feel pretty good to be honest. I am sore in the lap sites and a little bit where my stoma is but it's bareable. I am just going to update the boards and then I am going to go lay back down, I didn't sleep much since going in.

Congrats Girlfriend! Good luck! Let me know how you do. I have a friend pending surgery with Dr. Rehnke. Let me know what you think!
