Orlando is a major metro area and you have a LOT of options. Research the bariatric surgeons in your area. Most of them offer free seminars to anyone that is interested. That will give you an overview of the different procedures as well as an overview of the surgeon's practices. Usually some of the office staff are at the seminars and you can have the opportunity to meet them.
First thing I would do is talk to your primary doctor and see if they are on board to give you a referral. Insurance often requires months of supervised weight-loss visits, so get those started. It is as simple as going to monthly visits with your primary to have her document your weight loss.
The surgical practices are usually familiar with the various insurance processes and can help you with the guidelines. Sometimes you do have to find out for yourself what kind of coverage is offered, so give your insurance a call to find out if your plan even covers the surgery and what the conditions are.

So, I am brand new here. I am really thinking about bypass surgery. I've dieted, walked, and im currently on metformin to loose weight (it's not working) my bmi is 42, I have staywell insurance. I don't really know what to do to get started. Im at a loss. Help?
I have Capital Health Plan which refers to the BCBSFL guidelines regarding plastic surgery. They specifically exclude the TT..no allowances for medical necessity. They do cover the panni removal if it is medically necessary.
I haven't done my plastic consult yet, but I'm going to ask my surgeon's office about covering the difference and seeing if they have had experience with that.

I have staywell and they require 6 months not a year. The closest place to you which is the doctor I will be going to is Tampa Bariatric Center at the Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Murr. Your first step will be the orientation which is a requirement. They will tell u EVERYTHING u will need at the orientation. Schedule that ASAP. The faster u do the faster u will get ur surgery. Good luck
Hi April. I live in Orlando. I found a surgeon at the Tampa Bariatric center. They accept medicaid. I have staywell. I already attended the seminar and am now in the process of getting all of my clearances done. I'm just starting the process and my INS co request me see a nutritionist for 6 months. So hopefully I will have my surgery in June or July. Hope this helps. The perform the bypass, the sleeve, and the lap band. I'm excited
Nice to meet you! I am so eager to get the first appointment over with haha! I am tempted to call the office and ask if they get any earlier openings if they can change mine lol!
Awesome! Happy to hear you haven't had any problems! :) I was considering sleeve, but the more I read about how it can make an already bad acid reflux problem worse.. well, I think I may be leaning towards RNY now!
Not only will Super Early Birds get the lowest ticket prices, but you'll also be entered into a drawing for a FREE 3 night stay at the Embassy Suites Raleigh-Durham during the Conference.

Hi Nicole! I'm near Tampa, and also at the beginning of my journey! I have my first appt. with my surgeon later this month. And I feel exactly the same - nervous and excited at the same time!
