Anybody have any personal experience with APWU (American Postal Workers Union) Beechstreet PPO Florida. They tell me that bariatric surgery is covered if medically necessary, but neither I nor my doctor's office is able to get any additional information out of them in regards to other criteria they might be looking for, i.e., a 6 months medically supervised diet, etc. All they say is I just have to have doctor send in for approval and then they will decide if anything else is needed. Thanks, Betty

Husband is retired military and works civil service with the Dept of Defense. He has a few different insurances that we can choose from. The others are like Tricare Prime, BCBS Fed, etc. We also have Tricare Standard as secondary. Hopefully this one will work out. If it doesn't I'll just change insurance. Have a great weekend! Betty

If you want gastric bypass (RNY) or vertical banded gastroplasty Tricare will pay if your primary does not. Tricare is very easy to get approval if you meet the criteria. The basic Tricare criteria is: The patient is 100 pounds over the ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated medical conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome (and other severe respiratory diseases), hypothalamic disorders and severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints. Tricare will also pay if you are 200% over ideal weight and do not have any co-morbidities. You should give Tricare a call. They are very easy to work with. Red
