weather at Disney in May?
Hi friends, I need some answers please. I am taking my grands to Disney about the 7th or 8th of May for a week. I have been to Florida nearly every year but always go in late June or July except once the middle of April. When I went to Disney the middle of April all those years ago, it rained hard every day for nearly all day. It was crazy. we had to wear rain suits in the magic Kingdom. So, will the second week of May be a good choice weatherwise? I thought it would be a great time if not bad weather. My kids are in pre-school so get out fourth of May wayyyy before the other kids vacations start. Not much vacation traffic on the road due to schools not being out. Not as hot as July for little kids. Another question for you orlanders. I am going to try to get reservations at one of the resorts and I checked last night and they had rooms available but my money doesn't get put in the ban****il the first of the month so can't make reservations till then. This is really short notice. If I can't get one of hte resorts right in Disney, do you know the names of any resonably priced hotels right on International Drive? The ones I have looked at are about 150 per night. The Movie resort in Disney is only 100. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately NO ONE can predict the weather - and perhaps not even the weatherman!! LOL...cause I've heard them say - rain and it doesn't or no rain and it does...or say it's sunny and it's cloudy. Alot of that is a guessing game and sometimes they come close but down to exacts - no one can. I say April showers bring May flowers but sometimes it can rain more in May. On the hotels - try Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (US 192) there are better rates than that for sure. And good luck to you - I hope we have good weather when ya come!!!
IF you dont like the weather in florida wait 10 minutes and IT WILL CHANGE!!!! LOL
its very hard to say what the weather will be like.
the hotels try www.condoexpress.com or even something like extendastay or homewood suites if you will have transportation. best wishes and happy traveling
Delores--How nice it will be taking the kids to Disney--sounds like fun! Boy were you unlucky visiting in April and having rain all week. This is our dry season, I think it has rained once in about two months. In May the chance of showers will be greater, but it will likely still be pretty dry. Our rains don't usually start until June. It will be warm but not too humid yet. We are already in the mid to upper 80's on a regular basis. The weather will be way better than July.
The resorts in Disney certainly are convenient but there are tons of choices off site that are relatively convenient. Usually you don't have to pre-pay just to make a reservation. There are always rooms in Orlando. I see someone psoted about the 192 area--it wouldn't be my favorite choice. Just my opinion. Hope you have a great time. I love Disney--well actually I love all theme parks.
I know there are lots of rooms available. I am almost tempted to not even make reservations. The reason I wanted to stay at the Movie Resort was because the kids are three and six. They will have a ball even when we are not in the parks. Plus, I am old and the idea of being able to take a shuttle on and off site a couple of times a day to rest is very appealing to me. Thanks for your reply
Delores--In my opinion the best way to do the parks is to go early in the morning and then come back mid-day, when it gets hot and crowded, to swim and rest. We usually head back late in the day when the crowds thin out. It clearly will be easiest for you to stay onsite, but there are shuttles that run from almost all the hotels. The Maingate east is closer then the International Drive. That Mousesavers site that someone recommended is excellent. Three and Six!! You will certainly have your hands full.
Thanks Lynda, that is what I have planned to do. I have been an almost yearly Disney, Sea World, Universal visitor from about the third year Disney was open except for a three or four year reprieve waiting for my little adopted son to get old enough to take. I think I took him when he was about seven and have never missed a year until last year. But, it will be these kids first time. Well, actually, I had the older one there when he was two but of course he remembers nothing. I have never stayed in the park or Orlando area. Well, in the first two or three years i did stay at the original Days Inn in orlando but the rest of the time, I have stayed at my beloved daytona beach and made the drive back every other day. Less than an hour. We go to the beach and rest one day and then head to Orlando early the next morning for the day. I am still going to Daytona this time but will do three or four days at Disney first then only a couple of days at the beach. Not much at the beach for kids this age to do except the boardwalk and it has gone to the dogs in the past few years. Homeless kids and druggies begging for money everywhere, anytime day or night.
Delores,
I was just there this past week and we stayed at the Howard Johnson Maingate East on Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy - it was clean, the staff was very nice and we had an upgraded room with microwave, stovetop, mini fridge and sink and dishes- it was $59 a night. The pool is heated and they have a kiddie pool and a spa. The elevator in our building did not work but it was not a bad walk up.
Better than $150 and we made the reservations just a few days before arriving.
Have fun!!
Terri
