I've read several posts where patients have referred to feeding through g-tubes. What are these? Does everyone get one? Is there anyone out there who has had a Nissen fundoplication converted to a bypass? Thanks.

Not everyone gets a G tube. I think it just what the Dr. prefers. The dr. I used doesn't put them in but several people on this board has had them.

Yes, I believe when the RNY surgery is done laparoscopically the surgeon places the g-tube in the old stomach for drainage, however in an open RNY this is not necessary. I believe the decision is done by the surgeon based on his experience. You may find lots of answers for this one. On your other question I do not know..but I'm sure a qualified surgeon can definately can get this done. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your speedy replies. I have surgery scheduled for May 4, doing lots of reading and I'm still finding facts I haven't heard before! I had a Nissen fundoplication several years ago and have found a very experienced surgeon to convert it to a bypass. However, I haven't found another person who has experienced this and would love to find one to talk wth.

I have heard that the g-tub gets in the way than anything else. No major nothing about it. I did not have one. However alot of ppl do. I know that right now one of the girls has one and she goes to work everyday with it. Best wishes.
