Just wondering..I need to see one for 3 months & see my Dr to weigh me every month. Will ins. approve only if I loose a certain amount, or do they want to see that you cant loose weight? I'm confused... I'm hoping a dietician wont talk down to me & try and talk me out of this WLS.. I have my mind made up..LOL

The purpose of going to a dietician in addition to your PCP is to document that you have tried some kind of weightloss program and can or can not lose the weight. They are not there to talk you down but to document that you can not lose the weight. This helps you show them that despite a 3 month diet plan of whatever kind you could not lose the weight on your own and thus for you WLS is a viable option.

Julie- I would ask the insurance company what outcome they are expecting from the supervised diet. Or ask the insurance clerk at your surgeon's office. I have seen messages posted where the insurance company was looking for some weight loss no matter how small just to prove you were compliant. The protocol for the VA calls for I think it is a 10% weight loss. The fact of the matter most people can lose some weight on a diet, maybe not a lot of weight and certainly not all the weight one needs to lose, but a little. It is keeping it off that is the problem. The nutritionist should be helping you make good food choices now and teaching you how to make good food choices after you have the surgery. The nutritionist should also be teaching you how food effects your health and what role food plays in illnesses. It is not the nutritionists role to either talk you into or out of surgery. Red
