Dr JAWAD in Ocala!!!
Does anyone know since Dr. Jawad was named COE with the new medicare thing that came out if he is going to start accepting medicare now? I certainly hope so!! Because Dr. overcash accepts medicare but is not on that COE list. Anyone who has any information plz help, i cant wait until monday to find out!!
Just to add some clarity for those who might be confused:
COE means Center of Excellence. I believe that now Medicare will only allow hospitals or medical practices who are deemed a Center of Excellence to perform WLS. Not sure if this means more doctors will take medicare or not, but it certainly doesn't hurt to ask your (potential) surgeon if they will soon accept medicare.
Dr. Jawad is not making any plans to accept Medicare at this time that I am aware of. I spoke at his last informational seminar 2 weeks ago and they said they don't accept Medicare because they do not pay. Unless Medicare sends him something in writing that will guarantee payment, I doubt he will change his mind. Odalys (pronounced Oh DAL lass) is the insurance guru in the office and Sandra is the new patient coordinator, so you could call these ladies and ask, or email them via JawadMD.com - their website.
April,
Good luck trying to get anyone in that office to call you back!!! I hear he is a wonderful surgeon, but my experience with his office staff is just deplorable! DO NOT call Odalys and expect a phone call back. I'm doubting that he'll accept Medicare, but if you want to check, ask the first live person you get to.

April,
I called Dr. Jawad's office, and believe it or not, they DID call me back.
I was caught in the Medicare problem this week. I had surgery scheduled for yesterday (3/13) and it had to be canceled because my surgeon's center was not designated a Center of Excellence.
I was told that Dr. Jawad is a Medicare provider. I have an appointment April 18.
