Hi! I saw a story just last night on Fox news Jacksonville about a surgeon in Brunswick who has done gastric bypass on several teens. Not sure if he does banding or gastric bypass exclusively. I can't remember his name but it seems like it was Dr. Henderson. I will check the Fox news website and see if I can find his name. Kat

Hi again! I have been doing some research and can't seem to find a link or the story from last nights news. I made an error about the channel though it was actually on Jacksonville ch 47 news at 11pm. I am almost certain that the physicians name was Dr. Peter Henderson and his office is located in Brunswick, GA. Note there is a post on this board "The truth about weight loss surgery" That is about a lecture by the same physician to be held in Orange Park. Please keep in mind that I know nothing about this surgeon and do not personally endorse him I am simply relaying information that I saw on the news last night. Good Luck! Kat

There will be a FREE seminar on March 9 at 7pm at the Orange Park Holiday Inn off I- 295 (150 Park Ave, Orange Park, Fl) on the TRUTH ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY featuring Dr. Peter Henderson of Georgia Coast Surgical. LOOK IN SUNDAY MARCH 5TH JAX TIMES-UNION FOR DETAILS. Call 912-264-9724 today! Seating is limited. Georgia Coast Surgical is in Brunswick, Ga. Only one hour north of Jacksonville, FL. Although the majority of his patients are 18+ years old, Dr. Peter Henderson of Georgia Coast Surgical will talk with parents and teens and will consider surgery on teenagers on a case-by-case basis. Maturity level is very important because this is a life changing decision. Weight Loss surgery, whether Lap-Band or Gastric Bypass, is surgery and a child's ability to follow through with necessary dietary/lifestyle changes must be on par with that of an adult candidate for surgery. We also must remain acutely aware that the developmental stage of a teenager is such that they have an "I'll live forever, no matter what" attitude. They will have to commit to never drinking alcohol or doing drugs, in addition to changing their diet and starting an exercise program. The Centers of Excellence program in place at Georgia Coast Surgical addresses these issues through psychological review, assessment, and education pre-operatively; nutritional counseling pre-op and post-op; and addresses exercise/physical fitness/lifestyle change throughout the process of weight loss.

Just a couple of alternate thoughts to help you gather more information. You might get some relevant answers from either the Teen WLS forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/teen_wls/ And the Lapband forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/posts.html Hope this helps and MUCH luck!
