Hey, I was wondering if anyone has tried these, or if they are ok for gastric bypass paitents? They are centrum multivitamin and multimineral chewable tablets.

Before you go out and buy anything, what does your surgeon or his nutrionist recommend? I bought everything possible prior to surgery and now at 18 months out, I still have oodles of liquid, chewables and other sorts of vitamins, protein shake mixes and a pill crusher which I used once. Luckily the expiration dates aren't up yet on most, but I had to laugh when my doctor told me just get Publix brand B complex, calcium chewables and a few others on one of my first follow up visits. So far as good on my bloodwork...except for one instance of low B12. Amy

My nutritionist is an idiot. He was no help at all. My doctor hasn't given me a list of recommended things. So I'm trying int he dark to figure all of this out. *sighs*

During our move I found alll the stuff I had bought and never used...I have like 4 huge protein power jugs. I figured I would use those before I have PS for the extra protein. I get a headache when I think about all the stuff I bought and wasted over the last 1 1/2 years. I just tossed my expired Optisource vitamins and dumped the liquid centrum I need to find chewable calcium again...I forget too much when it is non chewable. Tracey

Tracey, What kind of chewable calcium do you have? The only chewable Calcium Citrate I've found is by Twin Labs. It looks & tastes like a giant sweet tart (yummy!) but they are pricey! 4/day is a "normal dose" so I take 6, which means a $12.00 bottle of 60 only lasts 10 days! Ouch! I'd love to find a decent tasting cal citrate that isn't so expensive, but most of the chewable cal I've found are calcium carbonate which is not the kind we're recommended to take. I'm like you, I also forget to take the cal citrate capsules, but remember the chewables better, especially since they taste like candy! Vickie J.

Amy is right, don't go overboard. Most surgeons just want you on a good multivitamin. I prefer the generic brand of Centrum Silver. You don't need anything special, you don't need to mail order "Bariatric patient vitamins", for most people a simple multi vitamin, some extra Calcium, and B-12 is all you need. But my suggestion is, corner your surgeon and ask him flat out, what kind of supplements is he going to require you take, post-op.
