I have went to 2 dr's that do WLS. The 1st one said I needed to see a dietcian for 3 months. The 2nd one says I needed to see one for 6 months. So....Looks like Im picking the 3 months Dr. How can these be such a big 3 month difference for the same ins. requirements??? Also there are only 2 dietician's on my ins. plan & there both over 80 miles away. My other question is..Do all hospitals have dieticians, I'd have better luck finding a hospital that takes my ins.??

that is interesting.......check with your insurance as to why there are differences in requirements....but yes I would check with the hospital dietician and see if you can be seen by them or more so check with your physician as to whom they recommend!! If you need help let me know I have one that is in Pine Hills. Keep on trying though - some people struggles with insurance issues and once they complete everything they get to the goal - which is surgery! Good luck to you!

Its ok Julie...its just three months, and if it gets you approval instead of having to pay out of pocket...than its worth it, right? We've all had to jump through the insurance hoops...but its the end goal that is important. hugs to you, I know its disappointing, its just a little stepping stone. We're here to help encourage you through! blessings, Tami

Your insurance company would be the one to contact regarding their requirements on a dietician. They should clear up the confusion. Ask them what ALL the requirements are for approval for WLS.

I have to agree with others....I didn't depend on the surgeon to tell me my requirements, I called my insurance company first, before I even saw a surgeon. Good luck Tracey

Check with your insurance company for The Final Word. Make sure that you give them info such as whether or not the doctor is in network, etc. As far as dieticians go, hopefully the surgeon's office has one on staff. If not, then the hospital. Good luck, Kristen

Well I called Aetna today & they said 6 months dietician. So looks like another summer of being fat in Florida :0( I called a few hospitals & found some dieticians, just waiting for them to call me back with info. It's so depressing to be at the point in your life where you know WLS is the best thing for you & now having a 1/2 year till I can get attempt to get ins aproval for it. Well I gotta suck it up & make the best of it, there nothing I can do till my 6 months is over. It's just DEPRESSING !!!
