HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!
WOW! A lot has happened since my last post... On Dec 24th, my 2 month anniversary, I officially declared myseld WELL!!! Yes, that's what I said, I am all better. All of the sudden I noticed myself starting to eat better for several days and then the hardest thing for me to do since my surgery..... drink. I started to drink and it didn't hurt anymore. So I backed off my Zofranm (nausea meds) and I still felt good so here I am now eating and drinking on my own. I am so thrilled to be PAST the nausea nightmare. I still have a PICC line in as the nutritionist and surgeon want to be sure I can get a minimum of 50 oz of fluids in a day by mouth... a feat that I am AGGRESSIVELY working on! I have gone from 2-4oz of fluid a day to almost 50oz. In some ways, I feel newly post-op. I am just now able to eat and drink so I am learning to chew, chew, chew and sip, sip, sip. I still forget since I have grown accustomed to NOT eating or drinking by mouth. I have even puked a couple of times from drinking too fast or eating too fast. As of 12/30, I have lost 50lbs! I am trying to get back into my walking routine since my strength is coming back. I also need to start vitamins again.
I have noticed a lot of early post-ops posting on the board lately about being nauseated. I just want to encourage you to hang in there and not give up or curse your surgery. You WILL get better. Do not be afraid to ask your doc for nausea meds if you are not taking any. The gastro doc that did my endoscopy told me that many GB patients take 6-8 weeks to adjust to their new "anatomy changes" and warned me that that might be my issue. Honestly, I snickered to myself when he said that. I thought he was nuts but in the end it has proven to be the case. All other tests showed that my pouch, intestines and bowels were perfect. If you are newly post-op, this could be the case for you. Don't quit. You will make it through it.
Hugs,
Sallykate
