Hi Bri Welcome to "OH" I know you will find this web site informative and helpful as well as getting support from a nice bunch of people. Regarding your insurance and what you will have to pay out of pocket. It depends on what type insurance you. Have you called your insurance to see if they even cover WLS? Do you know why type of procedure you want done? Lap Band where you go after surgery and get the band filled or rny where your stomach is stapled? There is alot of research and reading you can do on WLS. Its a process but if you are serious about its so worth it. Also check with your local hospital to see if they have information meetings on WLS. GOOD LUCK Priscilla

Welcome! You'll find this to be a well informed, friendly group, always willling to lend a hand! RNY is Rou-en-Y for a specific type of gastric by-pass weight loss surgery. It describes the way the intestines are re-routed. I would advise you go to the main OH board and read the frequently asked questions and the "journey" section. When I was beginning my research I found both to be very helpful and informative. I'd also recommend reading as much as you can find about the various types of wls (weight loss surgery). Then you can make an informed decision as to whether wls is right for you and if it is, which kind of surgery is best for you. Good luck on your journey, wherever it may take you. Vickie J. 277/146.5/142 (beginning weight/current wt./goal wt.) this was one of my newbie questions - "What do those numbers mean?"
