I was told that "we" cannot handle as much alcohol as we used to pre-op I was just wondering with all the social events upon us... Please be totally honest, How much alcohol can you drink? What type? How Many? Over what time period? What are the effects it has on you? How do you feel the next day? Thanks a lot, just don't want any surprises to happen at a party LIL'RED

I had two sips of red wine a few months ago and I could feel it! So I nursed the rest of the wine over a period of three hours and still felt woozy. I haven't had any since. Rhonda

One suggestion: Do NOT try your first alcohol at a holiday function or gathering, try it at home first. I tried my first post-op drink at nearly 6 months out at a friend's big birthday bash and got so sick, I disappeared into her bedroom and laid down for about 30 min. My friends all wondered where I had gone . Anyway... everyone is completely different, but you WILL feel the effects quickly as stated already. I have known many post-ops who drank within their first year and got violently ill, so I highly recommend you "test the waters" at home first. Now that I am 18 months out, I can have a couple glasses of wine or mixed drinks, but I nurse it over a long period of time. Amy

Hi Lil'Red I have not tried any form of alcohol since surgery, I guess just afraid of getting sick. But with the holidays here I might try a sip or two of white wine at christmas dinner. Let us know how you made out at the party. Have a good day. Priscilla

Lil Red, I'm 20 months post-op, and last friday night I ended up at a christmas party and drank all night long. I drank Rum and Diet Cokes, from 5:00 until about 11:00, I had at least 8 drinks, plus a shot of Goldshlager. I got drunk, I had a killer hangover the next day, just like when I was pre-op. This time last year I drank during the Christmas holidays, I was 8 months post-op then, and the alcohol affected me quicker then. I have built up some resistance since then. I don't suggest any try alcohol until you are well on your way to goal, because as soon as I started drinking I stopped losing weight. It wasn't until I stopped drinking and got back on program, that I lost the rest of my weight. Good luck. Steve

Get a grip, girlfriend. How much had you had to drink prior to Friday night's little "adventure". THAT, what ever the amount, was too much. No, I stand corrected. That was just the right amount. Whatever you drank, keep that quantity in mind. Seems to work for you!! teeeheeeee

I asgree with amy try your first at home!!!! Keep it simple and go lite on the Alcohol and ass more of the mixer. I know a few ppl after surger that do better with Vodka and cranberry. OR rum and diet. Good luck and happy holidays.
