One year has past...
Hi Everyone,
I haven't been on OH in quite a few months, as over this past year, my life has changed dramatically. I had Gastric Bypass surgery last year on December 15, 2004. I am happy to report I have lost 143 pounds, and went from a size 24 pants, 2x top, to a size 10 pants and medium top. I never dreamed that, that I would have had this great of an experience. I haven't had but a few problems. (A few being I could count on one hand) And I haven't felt this good about myself nor my life, since I was just child. I am still a young adult. 20 Years old. And I thank God every day for this most amazing surgery that they put out for the ones who honestly try and lose weight, but don't succeed. I just wanted to let everyone know, that I am doing not only great, but fantastic, super, fabulous. Now that I am pretty much at my goal, maybe 10more pounds, my biggest fear now, is keeping this weight off, and not just for the next year, but forever...and forever is a long time. So this is my promise to my Dr.'s & my Mom, who has been there for me everyday of my life, and never thought any less of me because I weighed 300 pounds and seen the beauty that I hold, then at 300 and now at 157. For my boyfriend who loved me when I was big and seen that I was beautiful, and now when I say do you think I look good, says you looked beautiful then, of course your beautiful now. And everyone else on OH that there stories helped me, and the people that answer your questions. And to you that are struggling...It'll work out. J The surgery isn't a miracle, you must work out, and eat right, and watch your portions. But isn't it better then being trapped inside somebody you don't really like? (Doesn't apply to all) You will see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. I promise. You must work hard for this. Nobody ever said it was easy. Anyways, I wanted to get on OH before it got too many days past my 1-year anniversary. Thank you so much to everyone, and I wish everyone pre-op, as much good luck as I've had, and everyone post-op good luck.
Love,
Lauren

Lauren, what a wonderful testimony. You are a beatiful person. Congratulations on your achievement.
We share the same surgery date...only a year apart. I had lap RNY 12-15-03 and just celebrated my 2 yr. anniversary. I know that the weight can be maintained....my surgeon was pleased (and somewhat surprised) that I had maintained not only "around" or "near" the weight for one year.....but exactly to the pound stayed the same for a year. (Which is still 14# below his projected goal). You are right....it's not easy and does require lifestyle changes for life....but the self-confidence and the good health that we achieve is well worth all the effort and sacrifice.
Again, congratulations!

Congrats, congrats, congrats!!! Keep up the GOOD work. It's amazing what this surgery can do improve our lives - but you are right we have to work at it for the rest of our lives and that's a big lesson cause we can forget.
One of the important things to do to keep on the straight and narrow Lauren is to stay connected to a support group - cause when you try to do it on your own - you can feel lost! Dr. OC has a online support group that covers Ocala, Jacksonville and Orlando. The link is:
www.health.groups.yahoo.com/group/floridabariatriccenterwlssupportocala/
We also meet 2 a month at meetings. At the Herndon Library (4324 E. Colonial Drive by the Fashion Square Mall/Colonial Promenade.) We are having our next meeting 12/29 at 7pm. We will will be in a back room so look for us. Please see if you can come and join us. Love to meet you, bring pre-op fotos and if you have any recent pics to share. If you can leave me any pics and a small excerpt of your story - we can post it on OC's website like we've done with the others. Do you know he has a website? If not, it is:
www.floridabariatriccenter.org. Go to success stories most of the post op pics were done by me and I helped in getting this info on there and would love to post your pics and story. So stay connected! Together we can continue the battle, Lauren!!!
Happy Holidays to you!
