Here I go again!!!!
I feel like I'm starting all over again...again. Last year at this same time I saw a surgeon here in Florida and she ordered every pre-op test for me to do despite having already has surgery...she even made me do another psych eval and go to nutrition classes...all I wanted is my hernia repaired and a TT. No I'm not at goal and probably never will be I've maintained my weightloss for over a year...can I please move on already!!! But that surgeon is a b----- and was rude to me and berated me for not losing weight and I had to wait almost 5 months to see her when I was having a problem, and I don't like her record of infections or the way I've seen her treat my friend who had surgery with her....so I when I was home in Ohio I saw my WLS...it was so nice...he was willing to fix my hernia and told me to see the plastic surgeon he works with to get that side of things set-up. The only problem of course is getting my Florida insurance to pay for things in Ohio, so he also encouraged me to find another surgeon that I like in Florida. So I saw a new new surgeon today, and he was nice and I'm comfortable with his record, etc. He wants to find out why I stopped losing and mentioned doing the lapband around my new pouch if my stoma is too large. I had heard about this and am interested, but my current insurance does not cover WLS. He's only orderd 1 test for now to see if there is a medical reason why they need to do a revision, but then he has several other tests and consults he wants me to do. I just went through a year of this crap. I know there are health concerns but OMG I've had EVERYTHING checked out more than once and I hate feeling like I keep going in circles around the hospital. If I don't get approved through insurance he will fix the hernia now, which the other surgeon was refusing to do anything unless I lost more weight....but I still feel like I'm in a holding pattern and doing all the pre-op stuff again...like I had to list all the diets I've attemped in the past. I wish I were back in OHIO!!!!!
Sarah,
I've just recently started researching the lap band intensively, and have talked to quite a few who have had the band over the RNY, very successfully.
I am on the borderline for the lap band and have multiple other health concerns, so I was turned down by the most wonderful surgeon here in Gainesville. Well, I started looking out of the country and from the initial date of contact to the date of my surgery (12/14) has been 1 month. I am self-pay since my insurance won't cover out of country. The surgeon I selected (after checking quite a few's credentials) charges $8,200. This does not include airfare. It does include: pickup from the airport, 1 night in a hotel, all preop exams and tests, the surgeon, anesthesiologist, hospital (2 nights), and return trip to the airport. So, the only other out of pocket expenses I have are souveniers, food, and airfare ($302). The Dr reviewed all my medical information and gave his approval before I even booked my airline tickets.
I don't know if this is an option for you, but I got tired of getting the feeling that I was getting passed from one to the next while each was taking their share out of my pocket.
I hope everything turns out ok.
