Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida

Hello to all, I am new here. I hope you dont mind me posting here. I was wondering if anybody here has had the surgery paid for by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida this year since they announced that they wouldn't pay for them anymore. Thank you for your time. Kelly

So welcome Sounds like you may be having trouble with your insurance company. At what point are you in the process of wls? Sharon PS Have you thought about doing a profile for yourself? It can be a fun way of getting to know each other and it's also a way to keep a journal of your journey.

Kelly, I have BCBSFL and I got approved a couple weeks ago but it was difficult and it required my employer's intervention (they made a policy change to the contract we have with BCBSFL to remove the exclusion of bariatric surgery). I am not aware of anyone else who has been as lucky but that doesn't mean you can't be! I am very fortunate to work for the company I do and that we are self-insured so they have a little more control over the decisions the ins. co. makes. I would definately see if they could help you, we are a small customer but our employers are big customers, I highly recommend talking to your HR or Benefits Department. I was leary at first because I have made the decision not to announce my intent on the job but they are held to strict federal confidentiality standards and were actually very understanding. I am on cobra with bc/bs. I am planning to attend a seminar next week from Morton Plant Bariatric Program. I figure that I will probably have to get an equity loan to finance this procedure. I have been in contact with a few surgeons and I figure I am looking at around 18,000 for this as I am not going to count on bc/bs..Anybody know any surgeons that give a DISCOUNT????....thanx..Marian
