I don't post to often, just usually read, but I had a question.I know I am getting ahead of myself since I won't even be elligible for surgery until Jan. 11th. But I have always been one to plan ahead. I was wondering how long I might need to ask off from work. I need to make sure I am saving my time. I am planning on having a Lap RNY with Dr. Seiloff. Any responses are sure welcome.

Hi Angie, Truthfully, I think it varies person to person. I went back part time at 3 weeks, FT at around 5 weeks post op. But, I have a very strenuous job ****upational therapist) that requires a lot of bending, lifting, and I'm on my feet all day for 10 hours. Then, I know some people that have gone back to full time work 1 to 2 weeks post op with no problems. Good luck! Dru 254/145 at goal

Angie, My ex-husband's family is from Quincy. By any chance do you know any of the Parramores? Anyway, I don't work hard for a living so I only missed 8 days. My surgery was on a Wednesday so of course I stayed out the rest of that week and then the whole following week. It was easy to go back and I felt fine! I think having the surgery laproscopically vs. open makes a big difference in healing time. Jan

I know some Parramore's, but they are not from Quincy. They are from Sneads. Thanks for the reply.

I had open RNY and I was out 6 weeks. I felt I needed more time off but I had some minor problems that kept me from walking and exercising as most people do after surgery. I agree with the prior post, It depends on the person and the type of surgery. Lap should be easier.

Hi there! I had lap RNY and was off for 1.5 weeks. I would have taken 3 if I could have though...around 3 weeks is when I felt fantastic--but I was functioning just fine at 1.5 weeks--we are all different Good luck! -Phoenix 287/172/150

Angie, I had open RNY and was off three weeks, went back at 6 hr/day on the 4th week and full time by the 5th week. I had no complications and was just bored to tears sitting at home anymore. My doctor would have approved 6 weeks off, but I was ready for my normal routine ASAP.
