Help - Bread problems!
Help! I'm 9 months out & have noticed that when eating in some restaurants, I've begun to nibble on the bread they bring to the table before the meal. Twice in the past week I've eaten my usual small amount of food, but felt miserable after my meal - felt like I'd swallowed a rock! Then I realized I'd eaten a piece or 2 of bread before the meal. I don't have a problem resisting the bread during my meal & don't drink with or immediately after my meal. So the only change in my eating pattern seems to be the bread. Could that be causing the misery? And how do I keep myself from indulging in that wonderful, hot homemade yeast bread? (I only do this at places with fabulous tasting bread, not the garden variety bread at most restaurants).

When the server brings the bread to the table, send it back immediately. If other people might want the bread, push the basket away and make your friends/family promise not to let you have any.
When this fails, remember how lousy you felt and work on your best food choice plan. This is not easy, I know!!

I think you are on to something here..
For the first time this morning I ate about 1/3 slice of toast with my breakfast ( 1/2 egg 3tsp grits with cheese and 2 slices of bacon) and I was totally stuffed to the point that I felt like
ing But so far just still sick and need a drink of water but am afraid to. (still to full) No more bread for me.. Cyndee

Yes Ma'am...Bread will do it
!
I couldn't tolerate bread until after a year out and still struggle unless it is toasted or not really soft. If you think about it, bread can be easily mushed up into a ball and that is what happens in your tummy. Stick to crusty bread or toast and you will do better. I see that pain as my built-in regulator since bread was my nemesis prior to surgery, so I guess my body wants me to behave when I eat it.
Another reminder of this being a tool, not a magic cure.

Bread is REALLY heavy for me as well...I can't eat it at restaurant. I don't buy it at home at all!! But if I have a burger I'll eat the bottom bun with the chiken or hamburger. I can eat most of it if it's a kid's hamburger but I still pick the sides out. I don't try any other type except if I go to read lobster!! I usually will eat 2 biscuits and some salad and I'm done...but I don't do that too often. Take it easy with the bread...it's gonna "kill ya"...lol...
