Curiosity Killed the Cat

Amy,
I know what you mean! I've seen & am still seeing changes in my food preferences. Before WLS my fav sandwich was a BLT, now bacon just doesn't really appeal to me unless it is VERY crispy, but not burned. After trying to order a BLT at several places & not getting anything that tasted right to me, I've sort of given up on them
I still crave sweets & chocolate (just not as often), but now I am truly satisfied with just 2-3 small bites, less than I would have eaten in 1 bite before wls. I used to LOVE fried foods, now I just don't care for most fried things - too greasy! I absolutely can NOT eat most kinds of fried potatoes (hash browns, Potatoes O'Brien, breakfast potatoes, etc.) but I can eat a french fries. How odd is that? Go figure???
Before wls, when it came to food, I went for quantity, not always quality. Now it is the other way around.
But the weirdest change for me has been this.... before wls I didn't cook much, didn't like to cook, NEVER watched the Food Network, rarely looked at a cookbook and ate out as often as possible. Now, I'm enjoying playing in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes, LOVE the Food Network, have spent a fortune on cookbooks and although we still dine out several times a week, we go for the good food places, not fast/junk food joints. Even though I'm eating waaay less than before wls I'm probably spending more $$ on food b/c I only want healthy, great tasting food - not the quick, cheap stuff. And of course, my fridge runneth over with leftovers from those dinners out! The only saving grace is that I love having them for my lunches (1 restaurant leftover box, usually has enough for 2-3 lunches for me) and my son comes home for lunch, so he helps eat up my leftovers, too. Even with all that, I often have to throw out leftovers.
It is amazing how things have changed in such a short time!

Amy,
I like fish now....
I LOVE brocolli...
I eat a variety of salad greens now, not just iceberg ...
I am much more apt to try new things (portabello mushrooms, sushi, eggplant, different peas and on and on)
I buy better cuts of meat and better veggies
If I take a bite of something and I don't LOVE it, I will spit it out in a napkin, before I would just eat it anyway.
And I love water and ice- drink it all the time - even when it is 40
degrees outside.
Terri
I'm also heavily into coffee. Luckily, I drink it black. I do drink a lot of decafe. I'm going to super glue a styrofoam cup to my hand at work 'cause I walk around all the time with coffee in my hand.
I can't pass a Starbucks. A tall coffee is $1.60 in Orange County and $1.61 in Seminole. See, I told you I was into coffee.

Amy, I would have characterized myself as a steak and potato person. Now you can keep both! Steak just makes me feel full and not very comfortable and I can live without that and I don't care about potatoes as they tend to fill me up too fast as well.
I like fish of all kinds, but not fried foods much. I like a few well chosen french fries but have NO craving for sweets.
I can't get enough AchievOne protein drinks. I'm totally addicted.
I would have this surgery again in a heartbeat.

Fried foods are out. No way, especially fried chicken and bacon.
I have in the past few weeks been able to cook extra crispy bacon for BLT's.
My main staple food is steak and baked potatoe. Now how is that compared to others? I think it is amazing that we all had the same type of surgery and we all have different taste, likes and dislikes.
I cannot handle many milk products. Sweets do not hurt me but I do eat less.
I want some salty and crunch things at times. Usually pork rinds. I would have wanted chips or something.
I drink fruit smoothies now to get in my fruit requirements.
Occasional sweet, but one SF chocolate chip cookies satisfied me, before I would have eaten 12 or more. No more 4-5 pieces of brownies, or eating all the left over birthday cake.
I like decaf coffee, but don't like water too much. Still working on creative things to drink.
I consciously make healthy eating choices, and like Terri if I don't like it won't eat it.
I eat more seafood, scallops, and shrimp.
I am satisfied with 4 sushi pieces when I would have eaten 15 before.
No greasy foods like chicken wings, or fried fish, but I can have 2-3 french fries. No coleslaw or tatar sauce, I would smother my fries and fish with those.
I am only 5 months out, so I know things will still change for me.
Blessings,
Tami
