LAP BANDING VS LAP RNY
This is such a personal decision, it really depends on you! I know people who had the band and wish they had RNY and I also know people who are loving the band. Some got it for flexibility in their eating and others got it because it was better if they were to get pregnant in the future.
What lead you to consider the band first? Why are you having doubts now and thinking of changing? What does your doctor think???? Any WLS is beneficial if you use it as a tool and embrace a healthier new lifestyle.
I guess I'm answering your question with more questions, sorry!

I choose the rny because it would force me to change my eating lifestyle. The weight loss was faster and it truly would be a change for me. The band was too much of a temptation to eat the things that were not good for me. Also my insurance company would not cover the band because they said it was too experimental. I did not like the idea of going and getting fills etc.
Hope my two cents helps.
Blessings,
Tami
I AGREE with Amy any WLS is beneficial as long as you work at it and either surgery you need to work at. I'm glad my surgeon chose the Open RNY because at a year Im facing and fighting tempations that I didn't have before and if I do go off track a bit my own pouch and digestive pouch will punish me to the point that it will make me go on track plus I only absorb 50% of whatever I eat. I know when I get back on track I get back to losing. Although you can lose weight with the Band - you are absorbing ALL your nutrients and if you are not careful you can go back to the same thing. A friend had the lapband and she didn'****ch herself so she has to my knowledge at this time only lost 35-50 lbs. She has to go get fills (If she's done it?) that cost $150 - $300 every 4 to 6 weeks. (This is information I've heard from her and others - don't burn me). And who else has the money to get that done ever so often..but this is her case..I've gone to the lapband forum and have heard of many success stories - so bottom line it's all about what effort you're gonna put into it. Good luck to you.
