UGHHHHHH - UPDATE ON GINA OLSON
You'll never believe this...I got all the way to the hospital after the bowel prep - mind you I did the bowel prep with NO POWER AFTER A HURRICANE ALL YESTERDAY! I got down to the hospital - mom and I went into pre - op....got the IV after 3 tries (major bruises), the blood thinner shot (in the stomach) and 2 other needles (I hate needles so much
), The leg things were on, the heart monitors, the finger thing, and the blood preasure cuff....and I was 20 minutes from surgery when Dr. Vaughan comes in and tells me Cell Phones just went out, home phones just went out due to the Hurricane yesterday ( which is true - or Id be calling u right now)....so he found it too irresponsible for him to perform my surgery with no communication - god forbid something happened and he was at home or somewhere that they coudlnt reach him.....So I was unhooked and sent home - with no surgery - NOW we wait for the call to do the bowel prep again and a new date
I am so depressed...I just want to cry and cry
But its for the best and this just shows that Dr. V truly will not me his ptients in danger....it just sucks that as I sit here and wite - I should already be post op!

Gina,
Oh sweetie!! I truly feel your pain- if you do not know my story, read my profile. I was actually IN Surgery and had my open incision on December 28, 2004 when the doctor decided not to do surgery until I had a liver biopsy...... Good news is, he cared enough not to risk my life with a horrible looking liver and I did end up having my surgery 3 months later (had to heal from 1st cut or risk adhesions) and I am now 7 months out today and down 107 since that 1st surgery. I woke up from that 1st surgery just devastated that the rny had not been done and at that point we were not sure that I would ever get to have it. I cried for 3 1/2 weeks until I saw the liver specialist and he cleared me for surgery. You went thru ALOT but be glad that they did not open you- you could be rescheduled in the next week or so. Call if you want to chat...
Terri
Oh my!
Bless your heart. Knowing that the doctor really made the right decision doesn't make it any easier to cope with at this point. This too shall pass though and you'll be able to look back and smile about it.
I tried to put myself in your shoes, and I just know I would be very upset and crying my eyes out.
When you wait and wait for something and the excitement (and worry) builds and builds and then plans change at the very last minute it seems devastating at the time. I'm a firm believer that there is a reason for everything, though.
It could have at least happened BEFORE the bowel prep. Jeesh!
I hope they they can get you scheduled again real soon. Keep us posted.
(((Hugs)))
Betti
