Hi from a newbie!

Hello everyone! I am a newbie to this board. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and reading profiles. Ready to stick my toe in the pond so to speak! LOL! I was looking into having wls a few years ago and went for a consult with the only surgeon in my town who was doing it at the time. He put me on an 800cal a day diet and told me he would put me on the schedule as soon as I lost 100 lbs. Well I lost about 55 and then lost my motivation/chickened out. I don't know which came first. I have finally decided to try it again. I know I will die without it. Have been a yoyo dieter for my whole life and am now over 500lbs. Wow that is hard to admit especially since I am a nurse. But I have said it many times in the last couple of weeks so the secret doesn't sound quite so bad now. Anyway...I have a consult scheduled with Dr. Overcash in Ocala for Monday afternoon. My insurance (Tricare Prime) approved it in about 24 hours. Now if they will just be as expedient to approve the surgery... Well I will be looking for an angel so if anyone is interested let me know. Welcome to the board Kathy! I can relate to your situation. My doctor told me that I wouldn't live to see 40 without the surgery, and I'm 35! This surgery has not only saved my life, it has changed it in ways that I couldn't even imagined. I wish you the same succes... Good Luck, Erika L

Hi Kathy, Just wanted to say welcome and I am right there with you...new, morbidly obese, hoping my insurance will pay, and a nurse. I've been trying for 3 years to have the gastric bypass and I'm not going to give up so don't you give up either. Email me anytime you want to talk. Joanne
