When can I drink alcohol?
First and formost , let me say that I am NOT an alcoholic by any means and please do not reply with " I should NEVER drink any alcohol ever again ", because I know that NOT to be true .
I just want to know WHEN it will be alright to do so??? ,
as several of my friends had asked me.
I know that I CAN'Thave carbonated drinks ,
I know I CAN have wine , but what about a bloody mary???
I was also told that 1 drink will have the effects of drinking 3 drinks ,and I DON'T wanna get sick .
I appreciate all your input and support.
Thank you and G-d bless you all.
Till next time,
Lots of love, Lil' Red
P.S. I became a looser on 9-26-05
Well, in my opinion you SHOULD never drink alcohol again, but you CAN if you want to! Get the difference?
From what I've been told, you shouldn't really drink alcohol until about 18 months out and you're done losing because all the stress of losing a large amount of weight puts a lot on your liver and adding alcohol into that mix can be very damaging. Also, alcohol goes straight into your bloodstream and you can get very drunk very quickly, which is another reason (among others) why my surgeon really does advocate not to drink at all.
On the main board is a swell lady named Dame Tooter who has a website that will give you really good health explanations on WLS and drinking which is MUCH better than anything I've said here. Please find her site and check it out.

Hi Jan , thank you so much for the great advice, I will find Tooter and her information very helpful I'm sure.
I too, am a looser thanks to Dr. Jawad! I love everyone there!
I bought them a card ( all I can afford at the moment)
But I evetually need to do something extra special.
Congrads on all your WL, I read over your profile and found it to be encouraging. as I too was "at the same wieght you were"( It's just to hard to type it let alone say it) at only 5'1 and want to be somewhere around 120.( the first thing my tall, dark and handsome said to me when told him that I was going through with it was(after, " I hope your really making the right decision) was " I hope you don'r get too skinny."
( I sure do love him!)
So far I have lost 14 lbs. since my WLS on 9-26-05 not too bad I hope.
Just praying I can hit the century mark buy 10 mo. too; and maybe join you on a OH cruises!!! ( could you send me some info. about it and how it all works, and let me know if they ever leave from Port Canaveral)
Well take care, I wish you continue sucess and may God bless you each and every day.
Lots if love, Lil' Red
I tried to drink at 5 months and got violently ill, I tried again about 9 months out and did better. I am currently 16 months out now and can tolerate about 1-2 glasses of wine or a vodka mixed drink (spaced out over a couple hours) every once in a blue moon. BUT sometimes it will hit me wrong, I will feel absolutely miserable and HAVE to lay down immediately which isn't easy to do if you are indulging away from home. The alcohol doe**** really hard and really fast so make sure you anticipate that.
My philosophy: WLS is a tool but shouldn't sentence us to a life of always having to say NO. But if I CHOOSE to say yes to something that isn't best for me, then I may pay for it in some way...whether it be dumping, stalled weightloss or just feeling crummy.

Since you are so newly post-op, I'd ask your surgeon this question. Your surgeon may have a different protocol than mine or anyone elses. I spoke with my surgeon about drinking wine and got clearance from him before I partook. I can have a small glass of wine and be drunk as a skunk, so really pace yourself when you do decide to have a drink. If you dump on sugars, be very aware of the sugar content of any drink you have. I can't imagine being drunk AND dumping...

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I drink wine as part of religious celebrations and blessings, but it's only a couple of times a year (three since my surgery last December). However, my medical team is aware of it. The cordial size glass of wine I had at Rosh Hoshanah actually gave me a buzz, I couldn't believe it. I didn't drink without checking first and no way do they say it's OK for me to have wine every week at Shabbat. I drink grape juice for that blessing, and even had grape juice while in the hospital at Shabbat but only small sips (and my doctors had to approve my diet while in the hospital so they knew). She should mind her surgeon's advice, I would never encourage or suggest anyone go against their surgeon's advice.
