I found out on Tuesday that my stomach is infested with bacteria. This particular type is a major cause of peptic ulcers. LOVELY. Started the meds yesterday - a regimen of 2 types of antibiotics, nexium & pepto bismal. YUCK. It seems like I am popping a pill every two hours. I hope this is the last obstacle and UHC will finally approve the surgery and I can set a date. Wish me luck! - Bonnie

hi, I also found out that I have bacteria in my stomach, i am taking the same regimen as you are. I do not like my doc. (gastrologist) he did not really take time to explain a whole lot about it. But how can this bacteria infection affect the gastric bypass. And how serious is this infection? thanks, rhonda

This kind of bacteria is, apparently, very common and poses a greater threat to gastric bypass patients because it is resistent to stomach acid and can cause peptic ulcers. The ulcers are more difficult to detect and treat when a large part of your stomach has been bypassed. You should consider an alternate doctor if you are not comfortable with the one you have, especially if he doesn't take the time to explain things and answer your questions. Good luck! Bonnie
