I had lap RNY and have had great success. I had a friend who had DS and she had great success, too. Whatever choice you make your ultimate success depends on how you utilize the tool you are given and your committment to seeing it work. luvitsunnyv

From what I've heard, the RNY is the gold standard.

I have decided I want to have the DS. The RNY is the right surgery for some people, but I do not think it is for me. The DS is the right surgery for me for a number of reasons. Among those reasons are: I like the idea of having a fully functional (albeit small) stomach rather than a small pouch, I want to have more options with the medications I take (NSAIDS), no dumping syndrome, and greater variety of food choices. I have spoken with many people who have had the DS and they do not have chronic diarrhea or uncontrollable gas issues. In fact the folks I have spoken with are healthy and happy people who live perfectly normal lives. Have you posted your question on the DS board? There are lots of friendly very knowledgeable people over there that can answer your questions. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgtype-forums/DS/posts.html You can also get really good factual information at duodenalswitch.com Each of the surgeries currently being done DS, RNY, Lap band, etc. has advantages and disadvantages and none of them are a one size fits all. Which surgery you have is a deeply personal choice and I applaud you for doing your homework and checking out your options.

Thank you all so much! I was familiar with the surgeries, however I wanted personal accounts, opinions and the like and I wanted to thank you for the great responses, thus, if and/or when I get weight loss surgery paid for, I'm going with DS.
