Still trying to lose
Hi guys,
I posted this on another board, but wanted to post it here to.
I had wls 11-2003. I'm still about 25 to 35 lbs from goal. Is anyone else out there this far 'out' and still trying to lose? I'm still losing, its just slow and hard. I fight for every pound. Here's my other question, can the pouch be 'shrunk"? I read some where that a 'long term' wls patient went back to protein shakes, ONLY, for a week or so to 'shrink' her pouch to help slow down her eating. Is this possible? Does this work?

I've heard being said that it takes 12 to 18 months for the weight to stabilize but I really think if we continue to work hard at it we can continue to lose weight even though slowly. I'm approaching my year soon and I may not get to my goal then but I want to be able to do this for life and work hard. We have to continue to create ways to change our eating habits and work exercises to keep our bodies adjusting. At some point, it may not move anywhere and then if we change our plan it could move. Keep trying different ways to get to your goal. You didn't get heavy in a year so I don't see why it won't take a bit longer to get there. I know it may take me more than a year to lose everything I want and get to my goal. As for the shrinking of the stomach/pouch - I don't think it shrinks after it's stretched just like our regular stomachs - they don't get smaller even though we try all the diets in the world. But we can go back to liquids and retrain ourselves to eat better and get a control of our appetites. I think that someone who has gotten heavy - and I was just talking with friends who told me that a whole family did the RNY surgery but then continue to eat and not learn from their past behaviors and are very heavy if not heavier than before. In this case, if they desired to get their lives back on track they would have to have a revision to get back on track. They could also try eating smaller portion, and do it the usual way but that would be very hard. I have tried and am actually trying to have 3 meals again and lots of liquids in between not to shrink my pouch but to get the scale moving, and I notice it's working.
Angie, Let me know waht you find out. I was wondering the same thing. I know I can eat more than I use to and this bothers me. I looked at your journal. It's blank. What did you start at, lose, email me. [email protected] thanks, tina
