Just a quick update... I have been deined , They said that My co morbites do not apper to be the direct result of obesity and that they do not see where having the procedure would improve my health as there are not enough co morbites to indicate that I am not overall healthy. So basically I am not sick enough............ I honestly thought I would be approved - no problem , this was a bit of a shock and a let down ... How do you contest that when they say I am sorry but you do not appear to be sick ...

What has the surgeon's office done to help?? Or should you try another doc, would that make a difference? I know my doc's office tries their darnest with all insurances - and I haven't heard of any denials (as of yet). Keep me posted.

appeal appeal appeal, fight fight fight Who is your insurance company? Why isn't your physician fighting this with you? What are your co-morbidities? Any surgeon worth his salt, and primary care physician should fight for you. DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't take this lying down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now how I really feel! No seriously, my girlfriend was denied 2x. On the third time I called her insurance company and told them that if they did not approve, she was going to commit suicied. She was diabetic, bad knees, heart problems, blood pressure, etc, all from her weight. Guess what they approvedher. Now you may not need to be that drastic, however, if they cover the surgery then you need to really go for the throat. Phyliss

I have First health ..... The PCP is not much help .. he did what I have asked but that is about it ... I am new to him , my other pcp lost the last five yeasr worth of records and has not found them - I call often to check on this .... This makes it hard on the new dr because he thinks that there are other things that we can do but does notrealsie I have already doen them and has to take my word for it - that being said the surgeon has been very healpful and over the weekend was calling to get more deatils to see where we need to go to apeal ..... Co morbits , asthma joint poping , family history of ostoporpsis, borderline colestrol and close to diabets , polycisict ovarian syndrome ........ This too shall pass...i hope --- Thanks - Misty ----- and I know that it is covered because before me there was 21 at my job that has had this --- large comapny

Don't give up. I swear some insurance companies have a deny it first and see if they give up policy. Also, is there any other test you can do? Like a sleep test? (You might be surprised...it is possilbe to have sleep apnea and not realize it!) Good luck...hang in there. Appeal and don't give up! Linda

Sorry to hear you were denied. What co-morbids do you have? What is your BMI? You may not be "sick enough" now... but with more weight gain you WILL be. I don't understand some insurance companies. They would rather deny the surgery and keep paying for medications to keep us healthy. WTF?? Appeal!!!! Don't give up! Becky
