Getting Frustrated With Foods
Hello Everyone,
First I want to give a big thank you to Ruth for coming to visit me in the hospital. Even though I was very groggy out of surgery I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by and give me that lovely card.
Now to my question to everyone, my husband and I had surgery together June 30th and everything went well except our doctor (Dr. Overcash) requires his patients to be on liquids for quite a long time. We have Jello, pudding, popsicles, soups, protein shakes, etc. but they are getting REALLY boring. Can anyone give us suggestions to change it up?
Thank you!
Hello my name is Tamishia Caldwell I live down the road from you heading into leesburg and my surgery was done on 6/06/05 It's great to hear you and your other half did this together this will make you unbreakable you have each other well to your question I am having the same problem but I am advanced to soft foods even chicken all the meats etc but I choose to still stick to my shakes etc you get tired of premixed sometime designer whey has a unflavored powder at GNC right in the plaza where there building that new gym it mixed withcrystal light sunriseorange, and applejuice is great you have to aquire the taste for it but I like fruity drinks they also have a premade 4pak smoothie shake that is great peach, strawberry banana and tropical island I think there good but 10dollars and something don't quote me on the price. It is very hard to stay focus but work it out together eat cheese sticks 6grms pretein cottagecheese with peaches sweetened with splenda or whatever fruit you like you will get responses back from others who helped me If you would like to call me at times your more than welcome look under chuck caldwell okahumpka.
I can urge you to follow your surgeon's plan to the letter, no matter how boring it is. I can urge you to try to forget about food as the center of your world and to put it in it's proper place. You have it to live, you no longer live to eat. Stick with the soup and protein shakes and maybe soupy mashed potatoes if your doctor allows and get in as much water as you can.
Good luck!!

Aaah You're welcome Darla. It was my pleasure! I've been thinking about you and your husband and how you're doing. I'm glad to hear you posting and feeling better. Well, I know Dr. O requires that but it is for the best..believe me I was there. I had add some chicken soup with the chicken being very soft at 3 or 4 weeks. By your next visit Dr. O will tell you(s) or might tell ya to "lay off the protein shakes" . I guess I wasn't losing enough so he told me that but if you're losing a good amount already you may be okay on the protein shakes. Try Lipton's cup-a-soup, or even a soft boiled egg (whites). Crystal light. Check the nutritional book..I know it's boring but it will be over very soon and you'll be able to move on to soft foods. Any questions, give me a hollar! Take care!! Hang in there!
Hi Darla,
I'm one of Dr. O's patients too. Don't you just love him? I remember being on liquids for only 2 weeks and then soft foods for 2 weeks. Panera restaurant became my best friend. I loved the broccoli and cheese soup and the french onion even though I could only eat the broth from the f.o.
As far as protein shakes are concerned, there is no way I could get in all my protein if I didn't drink them. The ones I buy are low in calorie. If you go to bariatriceating.com, you can order the sampler pack. They send you a variety and you can see which ones you like more and then order that variety. I had went through so many different store bought varieties and wasted a lot of money until I tried these. I drink the capuccino (112 calories) in the morning w/f.f.milk and it equals 32g of protein. I also drink the fuzzy navel in the afternoon and it has 23g of protein(90 calories). Once I started drinking the protein shakes, the weight really started dropping. I'm 3 1/2 months out and I'm down 83 pounds.
